Guest guest
, Could you please share some of the experiences parents have had with No Fenol and Phenol Assist and how it affected their children's ability to tolerate highly phenolic foods? I am getting very concerned about the continued removal of foods from many of the kids diets. SCD is meant to be a diet that eliminates only complex carbs. When parents continue to remove more and more and more foods, I fear that the diet is offering less and less and less of a chance of healing because the kids are not getting a wide variety of nutrients from their food. Maybe my concerns are unfounded. But I am concerned. Thanks! Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 13 months
Guest guest
I'd like to hear these, too. I don't want to take anything else away from Luke. I too have trouble understanding how these kids are making that are low-salicylate/phenol, no eggs, no dairy, what are they eating? I feel for you moms trying to balance all this! I'm about ready to give no fenol a try but I'm just so scared to, any stories good or bad would be great to hear. in NC, USA mom to Luke, 5, Asperger's/salicylate intolerant/diarrhea pre-SCD; , 3, healthy;,19mos,healthy; SCD going since 1/26/04 To DF, about No Fenol/Phenol Assist > , > > Could you please share some of the experiences parents have > had with No Fenol and Phenol Assist and how it affected their > children's ability to tolerate highly phenolic foods? > > I am getting very concerned about the continued removal of > foods from many of the kids diets. > > SCD is meant to be a diet that eliminates only complex carbs. > When parents continue to remove more and more and more > foods, I fear that the diet is offering less and less and less of a > chance of healing because the kids are not getting a wide variety > of nutrients from their food. > Maybe my concerns are unfounded. Guest guest
Thanks for expressing your concern , I too am concerned for everyone who has developed many sensitivities. The immune system is very vulnerable. So this whole experience has been scary for me with the PST limitations, but there are some good things to report however on day 7. I can't seem to keep enough legal food in the house. They are eating more than they used to even with all the restrictions, and there have been no significant constipation! (Fingers crossed) My biggest problem is keeping the frig full with legal foods. We are eating lots of soups with poultry, roasts, meatballs (a big hit here), burgers, some sardines packed in pure water, and lots of vegetables cooked with the meats for flavor. One eats lots of eggs, and they both enjoy cashew butter for a treat. Pecan butter is enjoyed by one. All vegetables are cooked except for avocado, and they include carrots, zuchini, artichoke, asparagus, snow peas, snap beans, tomato, mushrooms, green beans, spinach. They have been getting a sprinkle of Harry's antibiotic in water or a smidgen of the pecan nut yogurt, and it is going down fine (fingers crossed) once a day. I rushed through intro to stage 1, and 2, and possibly 3 because we do not have digestion problems going into this, and because I was concerned about how I would persuade them to stick with even more restrictions. From what I've read, it seems possible that egg sensitivities will go away possibly earlier than other sensitivities. I will try that soon, but only a bit of an egg yolk, not the whole thing. This one is not phenols, because it causes immediate digestional distress. I appreciate Jody's comment about when Elaine says we can try homemade juice. I believe I'll try juicing some vegetables/fruits which are normally eaten raw in order to expand the vegetable possiblities allittle sooner, but of course I'll stay away from anything higher than stage 3 for awhile as Elaine suggests. We may never go beyond the nut butters. I'm not sure whether to try juiced garlic or not. I don't think they'll go for it anyway. I'm not sure how quickly they'll take to homemade juices, but my gut feeling is that this is a more tolerable way for my kids to get plant enzymes. And I am hoping those young guts heal at a steady pace because I sure would like to start that goat milk yogurt and those eggs. Reducing the phenols sensitivities would be a bonus. I always appreciate your helpful comments Jody G. ) Kathy H. SCD day 7, 8 & 10 yr olds, chemically sensitive, minor developmental delays, feingold 5 years. Guest guest
Kathy, Also remember that even if you juice the veggies and fruit yourself, it still needs to be watered down by at least 50%. I hope the egg sensitivity goes away quickly. I know how much easier it is to bake with eggs. I do just want to make sure that you have seen that we do have quite a few egg-free recipes on pecanbread.com, in case you hadn't seen them. http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html Scroll down to Egg Free Baked Goods Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 13 months
