Guest guest
: I feel for you. My little guy, A.J., developed diarrhea again this weekend after months of pretty good poop. He's 3 and has been on the diet for almost 5 months now. He also got the virus bug, an extremely high fever, and vomiting. I broke down too and gave him Motrin with the dang sweetner in it. I got a prescription from our pediatrician for a sugar free version, but there wasn't a pharmacy open over the weekend to compound it. A.J. is on his 5th day of diarrhea, but I also think it's a bug. However, I don't think the sugar helped. I am trying to feed him pear sauce, baked apples, eggs, chicken pancakes, hamburger, and cashew nut butter cake. His appetite is really down though. Good luck to you and your son--Tricia What to eat - diahrrea My son has had chronic diahrrea for 4 years so you would think I would know what to do about it. He has not had diarrhea since the first week of SCD in December but now he has it bad. He had a high fever over the weekend so I broke down and gave him Tylenol. Sunday his fever was gone and he had that sparkle back to him but then came the diarrhea. I don't think it is from the sweeteners in the Tylenol but from the bug he has. Lots of kids in his school are out. This time the diarrhea is really bad. It is totally liquid and making him really sore. I am struggling to figure out what to feed him. He is tired of bananas, won't eat apple sauce since the day I tried to put SNT in it (3 years ago) and of course rice is out for the SCD diet. I don't think almond toast would be good because isn't almond flour supposed to be hard to digest? I have gotten him to eat eggs and chicken but that is it. What he really wants to eat is baked goods using almond flour and fruit. Any ideas? I am struggling to figure out what to feed him. When Adam got a bad cold in Jan, his stools went to diarrhea with NO medicine. I think it is really hard on teh kids to be sick - just all that more work for their bodies to fight off the germs, rid the body of toxins, etc. His stools slowly got better. At first I did not change his foods, but after a week or 1o days of still very soft and fuzzy stools (but not diarrhea), I put him back on the intro diet (hamburgers, gelatin, well cooked carrots, green beans, sneaky pancakes) for a couple of days and that firmed up the stools. You may want to give him some of what he wants. My mom's advice was always that " your body knows what it needs " . You many want to try this for a few days, say to the weekend. Then if things are not getting better, try a couple of days of VERY EARLY diet (intro if possible). There were several posts back when I was struggling with this from others saying loose stools also happened to their kids when they got sick. Meanwhile you can try Monistat on his bottom (if it works well, you know it is yeast irritation), or even just some desitin. And keep him well-hydrated. Good luck. Go with your mommy-gut instinct. -- Sue, mom to Adam and
Guest guest
He ate too many bananas early on in the diet that he is tired of them. I will try to get him to eat some though. Maybe make some banana/egg pancakes again. " This time the diarrhea is really bad. It is totally > liquid and making him > > really sore. Guest guest
What my son really wants is oranges and pineapple which I know would be the worse thing for his diarrhea. He does love cooked carrots though so I will try to get him to eat some of those. I was getting concerned that he is going on his 3rd day of diarrhea so it is good to know I shouldn't expect instant healing. Thanks for the encouragement. " This time the diarrhea is really bad. Would he be happy with a LITTLE bit of very watered down juice? Definitely don't expect a quick resolution, even if the body is doing what it should. One mom told me it took her son almost a month to get back to trophies when he had been sick. -- Sue, mom to Adam and
