Guest guest
Hello, I am new at this, and I don't know how this message posting works so please be patient with me. My daughter, Kaylie, got casted for her starband last week Tuesday and we are waiting to hear when she will actually get her helmet. I'm wondering if we have done the right thing and I am getting pretty nervous about going in public and the comments and stares I'm sure are soon on there way. Anyway, I am looking for an artist to have Kaylie's helmet painted and I don't know where to begin. I am in Southern California, does anyone out there have any recommendations? Does anyone have any advice for me, I'm sure the first few days are pretty rough? Thank You,
Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. I'm not in So Cal but if you wanted to try the decorating yourself (many of us have) then here is a link to some helpful hints in the files section ... Plagiocephaly/files/Decorating%20Tips%20/ I painted both of na's bands (her pics are in the na folder under Plagio babies in the photo section). I also used stickers after a month in her second band. I got bored and wanted her to have a "new " look too frequently to keep painting the second band. As for advice in dealing with a not so educated public, hmm... being prepared for stares and rude comments helps, remember Kaylie will have no idea they are staring or being rude, decorating the helmet helps, it does get easier. Let us know when she gets her helmet and post some pics if you can. We love pics of babies around here. mom to na DOC Grad accentricint <accentricint@...> wrote: Hello,I am new at this, and I don't know how this message posting works so please be patient with me. Guest guest
Hello Welcome to the group. I'm glad you found us. It is totally normal to be nervous about getting the helmet on your child, but for the most part they tolerate it much better than we parents do. Willow my daughter never fussed or cared about her helmet. The casting was the worst part, and even that only made her mad. Seems like you have the worst behind you. We always decorated Willow's helmet with stickers, and then put mod podge over it to seal them. When I wanted to change the theme it would all ust peel off. Hopefully someone from your area can tell you who would paint the band. Let us know how the fitting goes. Guest guest
Hi Just to say I don't know where you can get the helmet painted (as I'm in the UK), but I do know what you are going through! I really think that the lead up to getting the helmet and then the first couple of days is the most stressful time, not because anything bad happens, quite the opposite as most people have a much easier time with their babies than they have anticipated, but because you are so nervous. It's natural to think 'am I doing the right thing?' at this point- but once you are further down the line, you'll feel that you have when you see the improvement. It's so much better to go through this now than continually worry Kaylie's head for the next few years or beyond. And I'm guessing she'll adjust really great- most kids do. I found the best way to cope with the first few days was just to get on out there- take Kaylie all the places she really loves (playgroup, the mall, whatever). Your confidence will grow as you see that the world doesn't fall in and that although some people may look at her, in the main they are looking with sympathy and curiosity. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets more postive attention as well, that's what has happened to our daughter (as people see her looking cute and want to say hi to her or make her feel special). Good luck with it all and let us know how the big day goes. Hannah (mum to Lucia, UK) > Hello, > I am new at this, and I don't know how this message posting works so > please be patient with me. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group I bought some clear backed stickers from Target that had really cute sayings for boys. There was some for girls too. The clear backed stickers are better than white I hear. But if you would like a decorative artist perhaps a craft store might know of someone? ('s, JoAn's). Colin has had his Starband for 5 wks and we have not gotten many rude comments at all. The stares haven't been bad at all much to my surprise. There was only one small boy that said to his dad " doesn't that little boy look funny in that helmet? " And the dad said no...etc .etc. and it was a teaching lesson for the father to give to his child on how not to be rude. So look at it as a teaching lesson about plagio and/or etiquette and just love your baby as always!! Take care Sue Colin F. 10 mos.
