I live in Bartlesville and drive to Tulsa (1hour). Tulsa has 2 orthotists and OKC (3 hours) has one. Both of the places in Tulsa have less experience than I would like. I am not really sure about the place in OKC. The wrong information I am talking about is he said he could go in the pool or bath with his helmet. He didn't know what to do about a heat rash, except say it would probably go away. He was pretty relaxed about the time period adjustments in the beginning. He did give me written instructions that contradicted all of that and that is what I have been following. I do feel like he made a good casting. I don't know. I just like to follow instructions to a T, especially when it comes to my son.

Re: loose helmet adjustment

Hi ,I didn't have a starband, let alone an active band, so I am not the person to address this. I have never heard of this being done, but that doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't. I am sure someone with a Star or DOC will chime in soon.I am a bit unsettled by the fact that this guy has given you wrong information before and has little experience with bands. Has anyone in this group been to this orthotist before?Where are you at ?, mom to Makenna LLUMC helmet grad.> I went to the orthotist today and he said Nate's STARband helmet was too loose. First he took out the spacer, but that scrunched up his forehead and eyes too much so he put it back in. He decided to glue a oval shaped piece of blue vinyl/plastic to the forehead part of his helmet. His helmet does not shift anymore, but it has a big gap in the front where it didn't before. I am going to a guy that makes probably a dozen helmets a year so I want to make sure he knows what he is talking about. He has already given me wrong information concerning some of the little things that have to do with the care of the helmet, so I want to at least know he knows what to do about the big things. Has anyone else had vinyl pieces glued to their baby's helmet? Is it ok to have gaps where he didn't just yesterday? Any insight would be appreciated. Sometimes I feel like the only ones who really know anything about plagiocephaly are this group. Thanks again!> > For more plagio info

Oh, and has had something glued to the inside of his helmet but it wasn't vinyl it was just more foam, exactly like what is on the inside of the helmet already. His was glued on to both corners at the neck to keep his helmet from riding up. It worked, he only needed the extra foam for two weeks then it was taken out and the helmet hasn't ridden up again.

I just took Nate's helmet off and took a closer look. His is a thin piece of blue foam. Thanks. That makes me feel a little better!

,

Thanks for your encouragement. With the foam part added to his forehead, the gap is where his forehead meets the opening at the top of his head. I don't think that gapped area needs to be filled out. His forehead is normal except that the right side is slightly larger, which in unnoticable unless you are really looking for it. He doesn't have any facial assymetries. His head does kind of go up like a cone (similar to bracheocephaly) and he has a definite flat spot on the right side of his head. Does that make sense? If not, I will send pictures tomorrow. Let me know. Thanks!!!!!

Re: loose helmet adjustment

,I think you are doing a great job staying on top of this and questioning anything you have doubts with. With your ortho's lack of much experience, you will need to! Where are the gaps now? Anywhere there is a gap the head can grow, so if there are gaps in places that don't need correction I'd be concerned. As far as things getting added, I have seen posts about this but don't have any firsthand experience. Can you post a picture? Is it giving him red spots now? Let us know how it goes., mom to Hannah, DOC #3 3/30Cape Cod, Ma> I went to the orthotist today and he said Nate's STARband helmet was too loose. Dustie,

Nate is adjusting to his helmet quite well. The sweating has definitely improved also. I think I can already see changes, but that may just be me being too hopeful. I am still a little concerned about the new gap due to the added foam piece, but I will talk to my orthotist about that on Thursday. If he doesn't clear things up for me, I might send some pictures. Thanks again!

, I'm late with replying to this, but hope you are able to get the correct treatment and info on this band.
