Kym, This is our second week also. Abby had been really whiney, difficult,

not eating that good at all, red cheeks, runny nose, really

thirsty..............I am thinking the die-off is starting now. Maybe that

is what is going on with your son.

Just getting all those sugars and startches out has to have an impact. Hang

in there!

Kym -

Two weeks into the diet is very early. Some people see positive

things 2 weeks in and others see negative (probably from die off).

When we went gfcf, we saw immediately changes and that is what I

expected with this diet. That did not happen. For the first 3 weeks

we were on SCD, I did not really notice any changes. Sometime around

the 3rd week, I noticed a leap in receptive language. We are 5

months into the diet now and it had totally changed my life and

Zachary's life. He seems to just be developing the way a child

should now. I believe that since he is now able to understand

everything pretty much all the time and he is no longer in a fog, he

is able to learn and develop the way he should be able to.

SCD is about healing the gut. That takes time. Don't get

discouraged yet.

Zachary 4.5 ASD? SCD 5 months

Hi Kym,

Can you give us some more details. Do you have a food diary? What

is he eating now? What positive improvements did you see? What has

changed? Let see if we can help figure it out. :)

Kathy and my SCD friends,

Thanks for your words of encouragement. has been sick for about a

week. Today, I kind of figured out that it is allergy related. Sigh! It all

started last Tuesday when we had a walk on the trail because the weather

suddenly got really nice. He started to sneeze the next day. It has been

very rainy and windy here for a few weeks already. He got better and than

we went out for biking on the trail on Saturday and he started to feel very

tried after the trip after the fun. He has mouth breathing. He keeps

pricking his nose, and his nose is kind of inflamed inside. We are using

only a homeopathic nose drop to help him. He doesn't complain though.

He is back to his old self and sometimes even worse. I don't know why the

good thing we saw didn't stay with us. Kind of disappointed. But thanks

again for you kind encouragement.

Hi Kym, At least you know more about what is going on. I think the die-off

can be pretty significant in some kids and not much in others. Abby has been

really hyper this week, not sleeping good like she usually does (she is

waking up several times in the night), and more constipated. I thinking so

much fruit/honey is making her hyperactive as well as the nut flour. I

shouldn't of used it so soon so am taking that out. It's hard to cut down

on fruit because she won't eat the veggies. Just take it a day at the

time...............I may make a chart like Elaine says of

reactions/behaviors when I add in a new food. Good luck and stick with it.

p.s does anyone know if it is common for kids to become more perseverative

and obsessive about things during this initial phase?
