Being sensitive myself, I know I would have hated having to go back there if there was any teasing going on - but teasing back then was nothing like it is nowadays! On the OCD board I could also tell the story of how my nephew kept taking more and more hours each day to get to work because of all the rituals and fears he had to deal with...he actually would go over a bump in the road and be sure he had run over a baby!! (how sick, huh??)he was sure he had killed a baby lying in the street and go back and look and look for it...when he went to a shrink about his OCD (only because his girfirend threatened to leave him if he didn't get help, not because he thought it was a huge problem), the shrink told him...let me guess, when you go back in your car to a place you hit a bump, I'll bet it's because you think you ran over a baby, right?? he said " you don't know how common that fear is!! " YIKES! LOTS to talk about on the OCD board. LOL
Guest guest
Although I am not to the point that I get out of the car and look, I do fear that I have hit a kid when I go over an unexpected bump.... so I make sure to check the rear view mirror. I am relieved to hear that it is common. LOL
Guest guest
You bet it is. In fact, I saw a show on Oprah where the gentlemen would re-open his mail, re-dig his flower beds etc... for fear that he was mailing his daughter away, or burying her. Now that is scary! I think everybody has a touch of OCD. We all have little rituals and routines we do. It changes when it becomes anxiety ridden and starts affecting those around you and your own health. It's very difficult to recognize when it is affecting your own health, however. I used to be a checker. I checked my curling iron over and over to make sure it was off. I don't know how many times I would have to turn around and come back to my house to make extra sure it was off, the lamps were of, the stove was off etc... I obsessed about fires. I stay home now with my kids, so that obsession is pretty much dead. Now that is as far as I am going with this. Last time it got out of control lol. Guest guest
I'm not obsessive about worrying about fires, leaving irons on etc. but when we were visiting my father a couple of years ago, our house DID burn down. We got a call from a neighbor at four in the morning... " Where are your kitties, your house is burning down... " Thank God our kitties were in a kennel. A lightening storm had hit a transformer near our house, and a power surge started a fire in some less than stellar wiring we apparently had running through our home. If we had been home we would have been dead, seeing where the fire started and where our bedroom was and the time of day and the amount of smoke/how quickly the fire accelerated. (Not our opinion, fire marshall's opinion.) Anyway, it was an interesting experience to say the least. The first thing I thought when I got the call was, " Oh, God, did I leave the oven on, or an iron, or the electric blanket, or...?? " USAA is a great insurance company, by the way.
