Guest guest
My reason for voting " Other " : I do say I'm on a medically prescribed diet AND that gluten is toxic to my system. People always want to know what gluten is. I try not to get into a long explanation...if their eyes glaze over, I know I've done no justice to CD! Short, sweet, and upbeat, that's my mantra! Guest guest
Dana, Thank you for a little humor (although I know it is very true she should and am not down playing it at all!). It has been a stressful couple of days with kids down with colds and that just made me laugh today! But I have a better one for her! The child should give her a package of marshmallows with a note attached that says: You have been so naughty you don’t get coal you get snowman poop! Okay now maybe my lack of sleep is showing on me. I hope you all have a great day and thank you for the laugh!
Guest guest
I chose " other " because I do almost the exact same thing as nn. I'm VERY conscious of the eyes glazing. Lol! What surprises me is how many people really do want to know more or that come back at a later time to ask for more information. > I have a few different ways of telling people. I usually start with I > can't eat wheat (or dairy, for us at least). If they ask if it is an > allergy, I explain that it is an intolerance, which is a little > different than an allergy. I will explain if they ask, but if they > don't ask then I leave it. Some people will ask a lot of questions and > then I will explain further. But like Dana said, if their eyes glaze > over, then I know I've lost em. Since they asked the questions though, > usually they want to know. I don't immediately jump into the whole > gluten intolerance/Celiac Disease lecture though, I try to keep it > simple. Usually telling them that the gluten will cause intestinal > damage gets their attention and they are very supportive of my food > choices. And I do bring food along most times, just in case.' > God bless, > nn
