Hi All,

I have some questions about Angel Flight. One of my concerns is the

car seat factor. My son is a very big baby. Although he is only 6 1/2

mos. he outgrew his infant carseat a long time ago and is now in the

bigger one that stays in the car. If we took Angel Flight, how would

I get him from the airport to the CT clinic? The carseats that stay

in the car are so big and hard to carry so if I brought his I'm not

sure how I would carry him and the carseat plus all his stuff.

Do you just call Angel Flight and tell them when you need to go? Do

they wait for you at the airport? Can only one adult go on the plane

with him?

Thanks,

Tris in FL

Hey Tris----This is what will probably happen because this is how it happened with us... You will take your big bulky stay-in-the-car car seat on the plane and your son will sit in it on the plane. When you arrive at Tamiami airport, the Angel Flight pilot will accompany you inside. They always always offer to help you carry your stuff---so figure on that happening. Hand them the car seat and you carry your son and his backpack. Once inside, you will hopefully have called ahead (or the pilot has) and the courtesy car will be waiting outside for you. When I say waiting outside...the parking lot is like 10 spaces and the car is literally RIGHT there. Again, your pilot or anyone else in the airport (they are all NICE) will help you put the seat in the car. You drive to CT---possibly the pilot may want to come with you. Many times the same pilot flies you both directions and has nothing better to do. If the Ungar's take you, they will want to come with you. This is good... more help. It is literally two turns to get to CT. It takes 10-15 minutes depending upon traffic. Very, very easy. Again, if you get the Ungars, Ed Ungar will drive the courtesy car for you while you hang out in the back with your son. This was very good. So...you get to CT and leave the big dumb seat in the car. Bring in your baby and backpack. Then, after the appt...if with the Ungars, they will want to go to Pollo Tropical for lunch. Too funny, huh? Don't laugh, you'll probably get them. Sometimes they even pay for lunch---as if they are not doing enough for ya already. I always tried to pay. Then you fill up the car with gas (or Ed does) and drive back. The Ungars or someone in the airport will be glad to help you unload. Don't let the car seat stop you from Angel Flight. It is a busy day, but it is ssooooo much faster than the drive. The drive...yuck!!!

Let me know what you decide to do. In regard to scheduling with Angel Flight. You call Angel Flight Southeast and tell them when the appt is. They set the rest up. The whole thing takes like 10 minutes. They call back in a day or so with the name of your pilot and all the specifics as to where and when, tail number, etc...Try to give them as much notice as possible. Now is the time to call if you are thinking about the next appt. In our experience...we always got an Angel Flight. They never said..."oh sorry, don't have anyone this time." They are just fabulous.

Hope this is helpful. The courtesy car is a must. Be sure that if you do not get the Ungars, that the pilot knows you want the car. It is extremely helpful if they or you call the airport beforehand and reserve the car. One time it wasn't there and we had to cab it. It is $25 each way with tip to CT and more waiting around and more hassle. Not sure if you and another adult can go with your son. My husband and I alternated since someone needed to be home with my 2 year old.

Take care,

B.

Kristy,

We've had a few members use them. They all raved about how wonderful

they all are. Not one of our members that used them had a bad

experience.
