Guest guest
Hi Robin, Welcome to the group! Is your helmet a PPO helmet? I checked the Helmet/Band Database in the Database section of the group, and found that the PPO helmet is available in St. Louis: Missouri Orthosis Helmet Molding* (PPO Helmet) Precision Prosthetics and Orthotics, 100 N. Euclid St. Louis, MO 63108 Barbara Zeigler (314) 361-7800, info@... www.ppoinc.com I think we have one currently active member with experience with at PPO helmet, so maybe they will chime for some treatment protocol info, etc. There is a picture of the PPO helmet here at the site in the files/helmet and band brand photos if you would like to take a look and see if Tanner is in this type of helmet. If your son isn't in a PPO helmet, you could also consider this option locally if you aren't happy with your current helmet/ortho. I know we have many members familiar with the Chicago options, the DOCband (active) and I think Ballert (passive.) How old is Tanner again? Here is a link to a listing of all FDA approved helmets/bands: FDA Approval Database for Helmets/Bands Is your helmet or band FDA approved? Check this database to find out. Just enter " MVA " in the Product Code field of the search template, and press your Enter key to see a list of all FDA approved helmets and bands. http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfPMN/pmn.cfm From what I have read, it is customary for the orthotist to make the adjustment to the helmet, instead of asking the parent to add foam at home. Did your ortho provide you with some foam to make your own adjustments? I don't have any personal experience with bands, but I haven't read posts before that directed the parents to add foam on their own at their discretion. When you said your ortho was very experienced, was that with helmets and bands specifically, or orthotics in general? Hopefully other moms will chime in with better feedback about your ortho's request that you add some foam. When are you going back to your ortho to recheck Tanner's helmet fit? I hope she is able to get a better fit for Tanner soon. Please let us know how things are going, and if we can provide you with some other information, Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) > DEBBIE, THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE. WHAT DID I DO WRONG WITH > THE TITLE? Guest guest
July 15th for your next appt or June 15th? I sure hope it's JUNE & not July. If it is July, that is really way too long to be seen. With babies rapidly growing & changing heads, he should be seen at least every 3 wks in a passive helmet. Most of our babies in active bands at age 8 mos are seen weekly or biweekly.
