Guest guest
Here we go on our adventure...We saw Dr. Love (neurosurgeon) today and she wrote orders for to get a band and CT scans. We have an appt. next Tues. at West Coast Brace & Limb for the band. He is 8 months old and has torticollis and plagio; the Dr. even commented about 'too bad someone didn't do something about this when you first noticed it (at about 4 mos.)'. I have a million feelings about this. We're glad to be actually getting something done, but upset it didn't happen sooner; relieved that he'll be getting help, but sad that he's even having to experience this. My twins keep me so busy it's difficult to get the time to read all the great info. and messages available from this group--but I'm grateful for all of you. Kim Lang mom to and Ethan, 8 mos. Guest guest
Hey Kim---I'm glad to hear the your adventure has begun. It sounds like Dr. Love was supportive of 's issues and in treating him. Thank goodness. Had you went to Habal he would have told you that your kid would be better off wearing a bike helmet. He does not believe in banding AT ALL and actually in-services insurance companies regarding his opinion so that they won't reimburse for bands. What a guy. Anyway, I completely and TOTALLY relate to your situation in regard to having a million feelings about staring treatment later than preferable. I am still pretty burned up about this but am learning to let it go. I am thankful for you that Dr. Love knew her stuff and that you did not have to suffer through a much awaited for and huge let down session with a specialist (or two in our case.) I am very interested to see how things work out at West Coast Brace and Limb. I spoke with the orthotist on the phone a couple of months ago and she sounded knowledgeable and excited about banding babies. I am so hopeful that she knows what she is doing and that things go smoothly for you. It would be GREAT to have a good ortho in Hillsborough County. If so, it is such a great beginning for families in Tampa. The word will slowly get out. Please keep me updated on 's progress. Is your appt next Tues for casting or just to interview the ortho? Guest guest
Hi Kim, I'm glad your neuro visit went well and didn't delay you any more than you already have been! It really is too bad you weren't referred earlier, but at least you are on the road to getting treatment. It is a very emotional time, but it goes by very quickly. My daughter was banded for 7 months 4 months ago and it's a very distant memory at this point. Good luck next Tuesday. Is that 's casting? Let us know how it goes. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, ma > Here we go on our adventure...We saw Dr. Love (neurosurgeon) today > and she wrote orders for to get a band and CT scans. Are you serious?? Of course you are, but oh my gosh!!! What an outrage! Good grief-perhaps Dr Habal should spend some more time researching banding (WITH AN OPEN MIND!) & their effectiveness vs trying to screw parents out of insurance money & more importantly, babies out of a rounder/symmetrical head!! Fine, if he doesn't believe in it, ok everyone's entitled to their own opinions (although how anyone can argue with the thousands & thousands of band b & a pictures is beyond me!), but why the sam hell would you go about things this way???? Ugh. Debbie
