Guest guest
My daughter Paige was diagnosed with a mild case of torticollis on the same day she was diagnosed with mild-to-severe brachy. That was a little over a month ago - to be honest, I still don't really see it - they were like " do you see that tilt? has she always had that? " . And I'm responing, " tilt? what tilt? " It's mild enough that we were told only to do exercises at home - no extra PT needed. She has been wearing a DOCBand for six days now. Before the band we were probably doing the two sets of exercises 5 times a day. (Not with every diaper change but I thought 5 times a day was good). Well now that she has the band, we're struggling with a new set of issues, like getting it on her, so I have to admit, I've laxed a bit on the exercises because you have to take the band on and off and once it's off, it's a struggle to get it back on. We did them 5 times yesterday but not once today. I can see the brachy so I'm like " we're keeping the band on and getting this fixed! " but I don't see the torticollis so I'm sort of unmotivated to do the exercises because she just SCREAMS while I do them and them fights me to get the band back on. Can someone who's had experience with mild torticollis tell me how long you had to do these exercises and did you notice a difference? The person at Dallas Medical Center said we would need to do the exercises for 4 months and the person at CT told us 18 months. What the heck? Maybe I'm just looking for someone to yell at me so I'll get back on the wagon with the exercises but I'm really just not seeing the purpose here... Thanks! -, Mommy to Paige (DOCBanded 7/12/4, almost 9 months old)
Guest guest
, My son had plagio and tort and has been out of his helmet for almost two months. His tort is completely resolved but I continue to stretch him several times a day. Stretching is very important (the band and the stretching together help to correct facial asymmetry if your child has any). And even after the tort is resolved it can come back as they hit developmental milestones. The technique I use for my son is to let him watch a DVD of teletubbies while I stretch him. (I face the side I want to stretch towards the TV). This is the only time I let him watch TV so to him although he is being stretched it is kind of a treat. He rarely fusses and gets a really good stretch. Guest guest
Hi , My son was diagnosed with very mild tort. It was enough that it caused him to always turn his head the same way in his sleep, thus causing his plagio. We stretched him from 3.5 to 6.5 months on our own because of the turning preference then stopped until 9 months when we saw Cranial Tech and the specialists. They all noticed his tilt which we never had. Looking back at photos of from 6 to 9 months we do see a very slight tilt. As per CT's instructions, we stretched from 9 months until he recently turned 18 months. I guess the rationale for continuing to stretch so long is in case they hit a growth spurt and cause the muscle to tighten again. I really would encourage you to follow CT's instructions and stretch him until 18 months. Good luck, Mark (dad to , DOCgrad 1/19) > > My daughter Paige was diagnosed with a mild case of torticollis on > the same day she was diagnosed with mild-to-severe brachy. Guest guest
, I was in a very similar place. My ds has very mild plagio. We, (me, CT, the PT and Dallas Children Medical Center, Trish,) think he stretched some of it out on his own being such an active baby. He is very late getting his band, and I never want to take it off for his stretches. The PT showed me several ways to stretch with it on, (I am sure she wanted me to do the ones with it off, too. I just didn't.) That's all I did, and he was completely in alignment at his last session! I know his case was very mild, and we are VERY lucky! The PT gave me different stretches than CT and Trish gave me. (Did you see Trish at Dallas Children's?) Our PT does not want me to touch his chin. We still have to continue stretching for a few more months to prevent the growth spurt tightening. I am doing exactly what I was doing when he got better. hopefully it is still working. He'll be 2 in December, and out of his band in October! Good luck with you decision. Melany Kody's Mommy DOCbanded 6/2 Texas PS My 19 month old does HATE all the stretches and is very strong and fights back and I wish I knew to do them sooner! Who knows it may have been easier, and prevented part of the flattening. That's what our new pede says, anyway. Also, I hope this makes sense. Kody's calling from his nap, so here I go sending it!
