Guest guest
Hi Liz, I can really appreciate you wanting to get off the steroids, but it is very very important to wean yourself off slowly. I definitely would not under any circumstances go any faster than your doctor was recommending. You can ask your doctor if you can speed your withdrawal up, but please do not take matters into your own hands without your doctor guiding you. Guest guest
Hi, There are probably as many schedules for tapering prednisone as there are nephs. However, as a rule of thumb, a very long slow taper is used when there is a higher chance of relapse. In my son's case, the taper might last a year. Other patients are different. Ask your doc what his long term schedule is. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Liz, I just want to say that your post is so great. I made me laugh out loud a few times. You have such a GREAT sense of humor!! About the tapering, all I know that in some kind of autoimmune diseases it's important to taper off very slowly because it is thought to avoid remission. Sounds like your doctor is being very cautious and that's probably very good. Take care, Rotghi babyenza69 wrote: > dear ya'll > > sorry to be such a pain in da bum but i have a couple questions > about the prednisone.....again....lol...well okie i was just > wondering how fast are you suposed to get off the prednisone cuz im > taking a pill away each month and well there were twelve pills and > thats a year ,but aint that kinda ummmm you know LONG!!! i don't > wanna wait that long all i ever do is wait.... i feel so selfish > complaining .....:(and like i donno ive gotten off 4 pills so far > and soon it will be five but its soooooo annoying being like oh ye > im getting off another steroid this month.......i kinda wanna ask my > doctor if i can get of them faster but i was just wondering if this > is the normal way to do it??? > > mucha love > liz > > >
Guest guest
For some reason, my last reply didn't show up...so let's try this again. Liz, I know you are wanting to get off the prednisone quickly(not exactly the best side effects), but please be careful and ask your doctor how you should be tapered off before doing it yourself. I know that my nephrologist decreased it by 10 mg every 8 weeks....steroids are powerful drugs. Guest guest
Liz, There are many good reasons for a slow taper of prednisone, but one to consider is that stopping them abruptly or decreasing too quickly can cause a psychotic reaction. Hang in there, you will feel better as the dosage gets lower, even before you are completely tapered down. Good luck - Betsy > dear ya'll > > sorry to be such a pain in da bum but i have a couple questions > about the prednisone.....again....lol...well okie i was just > wondering how fast are you suposed to get off the prednisone cuz im > taking a pill away each month and well there were twelve pills and > thats a year ,but aint that kinda ummmm you know LONG!!! i don't > wanna wait that long all i ever do is wait.... i feel so selfish > complaining .....:(and like i donno ive gotten off 4 pills so far > and soon it will be five but its soooooo annoying being like oh ye > im getting off another steroid this month.......i kinda wanna ask my > doctor if i can get of them faster but i was just wondering if this > is the normal way to do it??? > > mucha love > liz > > >
