Guest guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 For me what was a life saver to have ready: Homemade chicken broth pored into ice cube trays then put into zip top baggies I used the recipe(recipe to follow) from ‘Before and After by Leach’ Also the book Eating Well after ‘Weight Loss Surgery’ has wonderful food from the very beginning to now. * Chicken broth ice cubes (already 1 oz sized, w/ regular sized tray) * Clear protein drink * Water, water, water I really didn’t want anything after surgery; in fact I had to use a timer for the first month to make sure I drank water. Also I got those little gladware containers in the 4 oz size to store food when I graduated to the puree stage. I had Azteca’s Bean soup that I blended really well and strained lol. It was wonderful having food that tasted good. Also w/ the soft food stage; I lived on Turkey Spam*and I hate spam) sliced by serving size and dry sautéed it and ate it with some Cottage cheese. Chicken Stock (page 105, Before and After by Leach) 1 Whole Chicken 2 ½ to 3 pounds 3 carrots, cut in half 3 celery stalks, cut in half 1 large onion, quartered 2 teaspoons kosher salt ½ teaspoon whole peppercorns Place all the ingredients in an 8 to 10 quart stockpot and fill with cold water to cover. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, skimming any foam as necessary, for 3 ½ to 4 hours, until reduced by about one-third. Carefully transfer the chicken to a bowl and pour the stock through a fine mesh sieve set over a large bowl or pot, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Cool the stock at room temperature. Cover and chill until the fat has solidified, at least overnight and up to 3 days. Scrape off and discard the fat. ( I then use a turkey baster to transfer broth to ice cube trays) ~Liese (270)260/223/120 RnY-Proximal 12.6.05 Message: 4 Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 02:16:33 -0000 Subject: hello everyone I am still here it is.. well, really busy here just 9 days til my surgery and I am getting everything done as good as I can around here so it wont be such a shocker to my husband and kids to take care of...I had my last appointment today with Dr Dunshee in Topeka and he is really keeping my nerves at a minimum...I have had headaches the last few days and he said that was normal with surgery coming soon, anyone else get stress headaches before their surgery?..I have dropped a few pounds I am now 231 down from 237, I am happy about that...FYI...I hate Jello already, and its only been 2 days since the liquid diet started..lol...Well I hope everyone is doing great I will try and get on here before the 3rd...If not just know that I am still around...Just terribly busy.
