Hey there!

I would think that it would be OK to put the helmet back on full time once the chicken pox are gone granted he had no problems before. I would just check it a few times a day for the first couple of days. We have a DOC band and they only told us to take it off like that for the first 2 days and after that go ahead and wear it full time. Sorry to hear about the chicken pox, this is the first case I'd heard in a while. Sounds like something that would happen to us. Hope he gets better soon!

(Mom to Jaxon DOC banded 5/6/04 and soon to have a 2nd)

So Hunter got his cap about 2 weeks ago...and was adjusting wtihout

too much trouble--then he came down with the Chicken Pox last

Sunday. The pediatrician told my husband that Hunter shouldn't wear

the cap while he's sick b/c the extra heat will cause more pox...so

we're going without it until he recovers. How much acclimation will

we have to do in terms of on for 30 off for 30 the first day, on for

60 off for 30 the second day and so on? Was the timing just to get

him used to it or is there some medical reason not to just start at

the four hours on 30 minutes off?

Does anybody have any suggestions? On top of this, I don't have

daycare for the next week (and we've kept him home for the last

week), so he's going to be up at my mother's for the acclimation

again...

help!!

Hi

I would check with your plag. doctor re removing the helmet. Our

daugter had chicken pox and had her check up yesterday. The doctor

didn't ask us if we had removed it. Unless the doctor telling you to

remove it knows about plagiocephaly I would be inclined to leave it

on. What does it matter if your child gets more spots? It is just a

virus that lasts a maximum of 3 weeks. Your child is wearing the

helmet to help him for the rest of his life. good luck. natalie. mum

to 11m old Holly who had a 1cm improvement in 4 weeks.

Hi Dana,

The acclimation period has two purposess. 1. To ensure that the band

fits well and you can identify if an adjustment is needed before any

skin damage occurs. 2. To get the baby used to the band in small

doses. Not all companies have a break in period at all.

I would recommend scheduling an adjustment with your orthotist when

the chicken pox clears up!

Good luck!!
