Kim,

Definately show her pics to better help her understand the

severity. Explain to her that she has her " mommy goggles " on, and

needs to take them off and try to be open to what her child has.

Ask her if she'd be willing to speak w/ another mom about it, and

put her in touch w/ another member that has brachy or you can even

give her my name if you want and have her call me even tho Jaden

doesn't have Brachy but plagio. I find it easier to ignore the

pleas of people close to me, but when someone non-judgemental and is

an outsider offers their assistance, that person is more open and

non-threatened but what ever issue it is they are dealing w/.

One more important thing, did you explain to her if it's not

corrected, the problems that may arise in the future? That might

help her decide to get some help. There's info also on

babycenter.com as well about plagio (i'm not sure about brachy).

Good luck,

~Amy

Hello Kim,

My son has severe brachy and has been in his Starband for his third week. One reason your friend may be ignoring the problem is with brachy there is very little asymmetry. Actually from the front most brachy babies look completely normal. People would just say that they have big heads. it is when they turn to the side you see the problem. 's is noticeably flat and kind of pointy on top. My family kept saying " doesn't need a band his face is beautiful." They would not address the flatness at all. I think it is easier to justify getting the band to yourself and everyone else if you see some facial asymmetry. Then you can say I am fixing a lowered eye or lining up the ears, and people are more supportive.I decided to go ahead and get one after I read that the sides could keep growing wider and the back stay flat ( I just had this horrible thought that he would he teased). My PT said his beginning numbers where beyond severe, but now after 3 weeks I have already seen improvement- visibly. One thing my orthodist has told me is that brachy takes the longest to see correction, and that the sides of his head can be stopped from getting any bigger but not decreased. it is also hard to repo brachy because usually the whole back is flat not just one side.

Hope this helps,

Hi Kim,

My son is Brachy. He has been in his Starband for 4 weeks now and

we see improvement. He will need a lot of growth spurts to round out. I

tried repro for months- nothing worked. I think Brachy need the

pressure on the side of the head to stop it from growing outward. I can

sleep at night now knowing he is not on the flat spot. Good luck!
