Guest guest
Hi folks, We've been SCD-legal for almost a month, and did the intro about three weeks ago. Since the intro, le has had some great gains in imaginative play, and is making a few more attempts to speak. But she's also been going through definite die-off (horrible, smelly runny poop, stimmy behavior, irritable, etc.) that seems to be going on FOREVER. It got better last week and we had a couple of great days, but then this week it seems to have gotten worse again. She actually had a vomiting episode a couple of days ago (with bile coming up that was *vivid* yellow). Even though she's also had a cold (we all have), I'm pretty sure she's still going through still die-off because she gets really thirsty (in addition to unbelievably irritable, anti-social and clingy). Also, I'm doing the diet as well, and I got my horrible " die-off " headache last night again, along with incredible thirst. My question is, How long is this going to go on? Has anyone seen die-off go for more than a month? Right now, she's eating only pancakes with egg, banana and cooked pear, chicken and bananas for lunch and chicken and bananas (with a very small amount of cooked apple sometimes) for dinner. She also occasionally will ask for eggs just plain (as opposed to in pancakes). And, she nurses a lot (one reason I'm doing the diet alongside her). My diet is completely legal but includes a lot more foods -- I watch her carefully for reactions to stuff I eat, and she has only reacted the one or two times a few weeks ago that I got an illegal by mistake. Guest guest
Hi J.C. Die off lasted about 8 weeks for . I think it took longer because we never did the intro diet. I also think it may be cyclical for some kids. Maybe some gut bugs hold out longer than others and then finally give up the ghost. Who knows? Sue (from Pickering) Mom to , 4, formerly? Guest guest
Hi J.C., What is she drinking? If she is very thirsty you might try some diluted juice. Better than just water alone, if you can. Also good is the electrolyte mix, especially if she is vomiting. It will help to keep her hydrated. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/electrolyte _drink.htm Sheila > Hi folks, > > We've been SCD-legal for almost a month, and did the intro about > three weeks ago. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, My daughter is one of those really unusual kids who will NOT drink juice -- I tried again today, but she'll have none of it. We never tried her on milk (thank goodness!), so I don't know if she'd drink that or not. But she loves to drink water and typically drinks quite a bit of it. She'll also drink iced tea (always unsweetened) if it's in my glass ;-). Actually, her die-off symptoms seem to be less today. And, I really really really don't want to jinx myself and her, but ... she's starting to make quite a few real language sounds. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
