Guest guest
Hi Dawn, With a DOCband, the life of the band is 16 weeks max, not a standard 16 weeks. If your baby outgrows it before the 16 weeks (which is when the pressure points are no longer effective) than there is nothing CT can do about it. My daughter wore her first band for only 10 weeks and I think the record her on the board is like 3 weeks or something! Especially in younger babies who are growing so rapidly, you just never know how long it will fit. CT will keep shaving it until there is nothing left to shave. It's actually a good sign that she's outgrowing it b/c it means she's probably getting great correction. My Hannah wore the first for 10 wks, the second for about 14 wks, and I'm anticipating since she wasn't banded until 15 mos this time that she'll probably still fit into it at the 16 wk mark, but who knows. CT will give you an honest opinion as to whether or not they think would benefit from a second band. However, I have seen cases where they haven't necessarily recommended one, but a parent has decided to do one anyway and take the chance. As long as you have a prescription, you can get one. You do need a new prescription though. CT doesn't go by measurements all that much, but instead on appearance. If you are not happy with her head shape at graduation, I would absolutely keep going with #2. If you are financially able to pay for the band (if your ins doesn't) and are willing to keep traveling (if you have to), etc, than you have nothign to lose. We have seen results even w/this third band. Feel free to ask any more questions if you have them! , mom to Hannah, DOCbanded 5/12 8/12 and 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " skukapeters " <dmpeters@w...> wrote: > My daughter has been in her DOC band for about 9 weeks and she is > now 11 months old. Guest guest
Yah Jake only wore his for 8 weeks and we would have had to get another band to continue. Thank God it is pretty well corrected. Now if I could just get rid of this paranoia! ha! <sarahhollis@...> wrote: Hi Dawn,With a DOCband, the life of the band is 16 weeks max, not a standard 16 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Dawn: I think you've answered your own questions! If you're still looking for more correction, then by all means, go for a 2nd band! I'll simply second everything else has already replied. Good luck, let us know what you decide to do. Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Thanks for posting your message. We have the very same concerns right now. We think a second band may be benenficial for our daughter, but we don't know if our specialist will agree and write a prescription for one. Whether our daughters graduate from band treatment now or later, we should be encouraged to know, improvements can still take place, post-band, as they grow. (One mother told me her son's head improved another 1mm on its own, when he graduated from one band and was waiting for the second band to arrive). In addition to post #95987 about still seeing improvements after age 2 (repo. only),here are a couple more encouraging messages I found about children who received additional correction after they graduated from helmet/band treatment. Please read #95696 and #55774. If I find any more that are related, I will share them with you. I'm looking a little here and there in the archives. Best wishes, (Olivia (4) and Meredith (14 months-DOC Band at 11 1/2 months) > My daughter has been in her DOC band for about 9 weeks and she is > now 11 months old.
