Neither my DH or I have ever drunk beer, even in college. I just

simply said " I don't care for beer, I prefer _____ . " and made a point

of getting my own drink. DH was slightly less tactful. At parties he'd

usually say at " Beer tastes like s---! " and drink something else. he

could have beer if he wanted to, he just doesn't like it.

Basically if you have a glass in your hand to be social, it generally

didn't matter if it was beer, wine, diet coke (my choice!) or apple

juice. No need at a party to explain about celiac unless you really

want to.

Here's a thought. Just FYI. Heinekein e-mailed back to me that their beer is considered gluten free. Check out their website and e-mail them and decide. Just wanted to let you know about what they say.... Best wishes for your health.

Dating scene and celiac's disease

Hello everyone.I am a single gay male living in DC and I was curious how people with the disease cope with dating, etc. I find it difficult trying to explain to people that drinking a beer will make me sick.If there are any gay males out there anywhere in the US say hi.Thanks for listening.

My brother is single (straight) and has

trouble dating too. He finds that he has better luck meeting people in

vegetarian restaurants or through his organic coop grocery store. Then at least

food is an easier subject to approach. As far as explaining why you can’t

drink a beer. Just let them know that beer gives you a worse “hangover”

than hard alcohol…. must be something in it. You can explain more once

you know them better and are more comfortable.

and celiac's disease

Hello everyone.

I am a single gay male living in DC and I was

curious how people with

the disease cope with dating, etc. I find it

difficult trying to

explain to people that drinking a beer will make

me sick.

If there are any gay males out there anywhere in

the US

say hi.

Thanks for listening.

I tell everybody I can't drink beer. Then I explain why.

That's just a personal choice, though. I was just recently

diagnosed...at age 30, so I have sort of taken this as a personal

cause to educate people about CD and Gluten Intolerance. I take

every opportunity I can to explain it.

Then again, I'm also in sales, and generally like to hear myself

talk!! ;)
