Guest guest
Goodness. No flour put on the cereals (where did that come from?) but who knows about cross contamination. Some people do fine with them and others don't. As said before, if any raw meat has added gluten it MUST be clearly listed. I've never found a raw turkey with gluten. Hams are OK unless they're honeyglazed or commercially glazed. Generally, turkey is VERY safe, and so is ham unless it's glazed. richard JanetB@... wrote: A few questions...I had read that Fruity Pebbles used to be OK, but then they started dusting them with flour to keep them from sticking. Is this true? Cocoa Pebbles are OK to eat also? Any other "regular" cereals in the grocery store GF?I have seen "Crunch Toons" mentioned in a few emails and have looked for them in my local grocery stores (Walmart & Kroger). I haven't seen them. Are they chips, crackers or what? I have read that self basting turkeys are not OK. What is a safe brand of Turkey and also Ham? Relatives hosting holiday parties are already asking me!Thank you!Janet Re: new diagnosisOther > wise, I can usually scrounge around and find the leftover bag of > Cocoa Pebbles that he didn't finish from breakfast! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, We've found turkeys injected with a solution that may have contained gluten-I think they had one of those "call the manufacturer for the source" ingredients. Hopefully with the new labeling guidelines this year, we'll find out that they were okay after all. We usually end up buying a natural turkey. Drove my husband crazy last year, we drove to several stores to find one and we have three Toms on our farm, but the kids said they are pets. Guest guest
From my experience in the meat departments of the stores sometimes the poultry contains broth that has been injected but it has not been listed as to what the ingredients are. I wonder if it is one of those areas most of the suppliers will list it according to the rules but others may not? I asked the manager of the one meat department and they couldn’t answer my question of what is in the broth of the chicken that wasn’t listed. Since this is my first Thanksgiving that I have to go GF I looked at turkeys and they have some on there that say they are free of gluten! That made my day! J I just hope the new rules will help us as much as they are suppose to.
Guest guest
Thanks for the info about Turkeys and Crunch Toons. The place I read about Fruity Pebbles being dusted with wheat came from the archived messages of a GF, casein free mailing group. I'll get the number off the box next time I go to the grocery store and call them to see myself. My littlest doesn't do good with chocolate or food colorings and such anyway, but I thought I'd pass the info on to a newly diagnosed celiac mom and toddler I know. THANKS EVERYONE!!!
