Hi all. We are done with week 3 and are headed into week 4 already!!!

Here are my observations of this week.

I'm running out of snack ideas! I can't imagine not being able to have

the yogurt. I only allow Sam 3 PB muffins and a few PB cookies a day,

but he asks all day for them. I wish I could give him a pear w/some PB

or a slice of melon; just those two things added into our routine would

help me alot. But he is not ready for them yet. He really likes the

PB/yogurt balls (thanks !) and meringues too. I went through 3

lbs of honey and 3 lbs of PB this week! I didn't think we were using so

much honey!!! But I guess two batches of cookies, meringues and a pb

cake would do it. Plus some drizzled in yogurt and smoothies. I'm not

seeing any behavior effects from it, but I am a bit concerned. I'm

going to make some cheese 'crackers " this week to add in.

He's eating tons of veggies though. At least 3 different kinds per

meal (except breakfast.) He'll eat carrots, green beans, and broccoli.

His favorite is roasted cauliflower though. I'm going to get some

mustard seed to start trying to make my own. He'll only eat meat

w/mustard and I'm having a hard time finding legal mustard w/o some

kind of salicylate in it (wine/vinegar from grapes.)

I made the PB cake for a birthday party we went to. He liked it. I

also made some yogurt from heavy cream, dripped it and whipped it up

for frosting. I added some reduced pomegranate juice to tint it and it

tasted very pomegranate-y. It was good but the two didn't go that well

together! I dropped the leftover frosting onto a cookie sheet and

froze it; now we have purple ice cream balls! The heavy cream yogurt

tasted just like sour cream plain.

We hit a snag this week though. He had a little cup of Dole pineapple

in juice. He never ever wanted it before and refused it preSCD. He

found a cup in the fridge and asked for it!!! So I let him have it.

The next night I made Chicken nuggets with peacan flour in preparation

for the birthday party. I really wanted him to have something like

what the other kids were going to have. I knew it was too early and

didn't plan on giving it to him again for another month or so. The

next day he woke up with such a tummy ache. Way down low. He was

toe-walking somewhat (something he's never done) and bending over when

he walked......poor guy. He actually told me it hurt something he

never would have done in the past. He used to act out when he wasn't

feeling well. He'd start crashing into things and poking at people. I

don't think he was ever aware enough to realize something was going on

with his body. So no pineapple or pecan flour for awhile. No big

deal. As long as we can still have PB, we'll be ok.

His speech has been clearer the past few days as well. He used the word

complicated this week too......

" mommy what are you doing??

" making the bed..... "

" OH, that's complicated! "

Too funny!

After doing some more research and actually listening and watching

closely to how he interacted with the other kids at the birthday party,

I'm sure that Sam is not an ASD kid. I think that his sensory issues,

temperment and diet sensitivities mimic *some* of the symptoms. He was

great at the party!!! I thought we were going to have a really tough

time because he wasn't feeling well, but he played fine with the other

kids. He worked out most problems by himself and didn't fight about

toys. There were zero tantrums, no meltdowns and even though he didn't

want to leave, he left with little problem. I still think he need

extra help dealing with frustration and getting by his sensory issues,

but I'm done worrying about him. As long as we stick with the diet and

get him the help he needs, he'll be ok.

Can you try making gelatin jigglers with pear juice? They are pretty

good! It would offer you another snack option.

We got some race car molds from my mother in law so we have race car

jigglers made with grape juice.

The kids love them, we also have plain tray of it to use cookie

cutters on.

Just a thought!

I *do* make those too! I just forgot. I feel like he is getting

bored of pb muffins, pb cookies, meringues, jello, and yogurt.

Acutally now I make the pb yogurt balls too and seeing all of it listed

here, it's not too bad a mix of things!

Hi Chystee,

Sounds like Sam has an appetite like my kids!

How about making some posicles with pearsauce or pearsauce alone? Can he eat

ripe bananas? My kids love them frozen with peanut butter on them. You could

even put them on a popsicle stick.

There are lots of great food ideas on http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html for

various stages of improvement.

It sounds like he is doing great. Please keep us updated.
