No personal experience, but I know that some adults that are doing

scd, have seen far better results when they gave up the last bits and

pieces of illegals. As these adults can describe very accurately how

they feel and what the changes were, I have every reason to believe

that this fine-tuning is underestimated.

Kym,

I don't have personal experience in this either. Is it possible to

find legal substitutions for these supplements? If not, the

progress you see may be slower. You have to weigh the benefits of

these supplements. If you think your child needs these right now,

then continue. Maybe after some healing, you can try the diet

without them.

Also, remember that the stages are a guideline. It is not going to

be the same for every child. If you want to try a little oil with

your cooking, I say go ahead and see what happens. If there is a

negative reaction, then stop. Just my .02!

Hello-

I don't know about anyone else but we had the same thing with a couple of

illegal supplements. I got them in a legal form and went through another

significant die-off and came out even better on the other side.

We were trully amazed.

Hi Kym,

(like PD and some herbal things)

Well the primal defense is full of all sorts of illegals. The

bifidum alone is something that time and again comes up with causing

major GI distress for IBDers. I was doing pretty good at first but

eventually I did have the overgrowth that happens with bifidum

please read

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/bifidus.htm

.. It took me months to recover. Some herbal meds are illegal and

can make GI problems worse. You can check on Elaines website for

some herbals that are prescribed by some health professionals.

Also very early in the diet I had a little bit of illegals that

ended up sending me to the ER. It really depends on the individual

how much it will take. For me it was a less than 1/4 teaspoon of

illegals spread over three days. Not until I cut out all these

things did I see improvement in my bowels. If I hadn't given up

those small things who knows where I'd be. I certainly would be a

heck of a lot sicker and I'd never have gotten a clear picture of

how well i could be.

The stages don't run concurrently. They are meant only as a

guideline. This means that when you start the intro you don't want

to start with deep fried meats or dried jerky. You want meats to be

boiled or broiled at first. The next step is to bake foods and if

that is tolerated then start to use oils when cooking and then

eventually deep frying or dried meats. At that point you still

might not be tolerating raw peeled vegetables or fruits. The use of

oil in cooking is seperate than the fruits & veggies. Does that

makes sense? :)

> When can herbs generally be added.

It depends on the herbs in question. If there is any doubt to its'

legality you can check for them on the legal illegal list at

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_a-c.htm

If you can't find it ask the list.

> I don't think we will try every food listed for the each stage.

So, what

> are the indicators for the readiness to move up the stages?

Again the stages is just a guideline of how foods are prepared and

where they fall in relation to each other. All foods listed don't

need to be tried, they are just listed to give people ideas about

what could be next. Indicators of readiness are decrease in

symptoms. For some that means less gas, less D, less constipation.

Again it will depend on the symptoms that the child starts with. If

you want you can ask the list more specifically. When you do try a

new food. You want to start with small amounts and gradually

increase it. For example 1 teaspoon the irst day, skip a day. If

all is positive and there is no increase in symptoms increase the

third day to 1 & 1/2 tsps to 2 teaspoons. If the child is extremely

sensitive go slower. If not you could start with slightly larger

amounts.
