Guest guest
I have had diarehia for over 2 years and small improvement when I followed the celiac diet with gluten free products but than I went on a binge in Nov until Jan and now. I am trying this diet but I have been off of milk for awhile and was only drinking rice milk. When I started making the yogurt with whole milk, I was ok until my 3rd day and than I had so much congestion from the milk that I had to stop drinking it, I was feeling terrible. I tried the goats milk and the same thing happened to me. What else can I try. The nutritionest said I had alot of yeast, very very low on iron and had lots of bad bacteria. I was negative when tested for celiac. Everything I eat goes right thru me and has a fowl smell. I will be making an appt to get a collonosgapie. What can I do in the meantime. I am taking probiotics garden of life and goatein(which is a protein drink-predigested) by garden of life. Help, Kim
Guest guest
Kim, All the Garden of Life products are illegal on SCD. There are legal probiotics listed on Elaine's website: www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info . I don't know about the " goatein " product.... but I suspect it would be illegal, too. You'd have to list the ingredients. The congestion you were experiencing with the yogurt could have been from yeast and bacteria dying off....... and might just have been temporary if you were to hang in there. Everyone is unique in terms of the ability to tolerate various foods, though. Guest guest
Hi Kim, The Primal defense by Garden of life is illegal on SCD. From Elaine's website, http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/primal_defense.htm Primal Defense is not SCDT compliant. The following is an ingredient list from their website, with it's SCDT status listed beside: Spirulina (algae - not SCDT compliant) Chlorella (algae - not SCDT compliant) Dunaliella (algae - not SCDT compliant) Kamut grass, Wheat Grass, Barley brass, Oat Grass, Alfalfa Grass* Sweet potato (not SCDT compliant) Flax seed (not SCDT compliant in any form) Sesame seed (not SCDT compliant)** Sunflower seed (not SCDT compliant)** Pumkin seed (not SCDT compliant)** Ginger and ionic plant based minerals Here are the bacteria in it: Acidophilus, Bulgaricus, Plantarum, Brevis, Caucasicus, Fermenti, Helveticus, Leichmannii, Lactus, Caseii, Bifidum, Boulardii, Subtilis, and Lichenformis.*** * Grasses in this instance are not compliant, because we have no idea how well they were sprouted or if the seed coating was included in the product. ** Seeds are allowed on SCDT but seed flours are not, and we have no idea what the amount or form of the sesame seeds in this product is. *** Bifidum, Boulardii, and Caseii are not allowed on SCDT. Neither are soil-based organisms, as their effects have not been well researched or documented. Originally from the Long Island listserve. The goatein is also illegal on SCD. There were a lot of foods that I thought I could eat and others I couldn't eat before SCD. But I was sick all the time. Once I started with the intro diet and slowly started to add foods in I found things that I could now eat after healing (onions and garlic) and foods I'll never go back to - white bread The intro diet is in BTVC and also at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_intro_diet2.htm ). If you are concerned about doing dairy right now you could leave it out for a few weeks and when feeling better slowly try it in small amounts to see if you can then tolerate it. After strictly doing the intro for a few days (with severe D you should probably do it 4-5 days) slowly start to add in other foods. MAybe well cooked green beans (french cut is better to start with) or some very ripe banana. And you really should stop the primal defense. The bifidum alone is something that time and again comes up with causing major GI distress for IBDers. I was one, I got very, very sick with bifidum bacter Hope this helps, keep us updated.
