We have a strict family rule (which actually predates going GF by

several years) that our son is never allowed to accept food from

anyone but mom or dad without permission. (variation on the old " never

take candy from strangers " rule) Because this always the rule,

Halloween is no big deal.

As for unsafe candy, some of which will surely land in the bucket,

I've ordered some specialty Lego pieces from Lego.com (wheels, car

stuff) and we will trade a Lego piece per piece of candy.

You could purchase gf candy that you know is safe and swap him piece for

piece that is given to him at the neighbors. My kids like to eat it as they

walk, which I don't like for safety reasons as well as gf. So I keep some

candy in my pocket that I know is ok and give that to them. When we get home

we do a swap.

We do the same. We are lucky to have a nephew who is very picky with his candy. My kids trade their no-no candy with him for their yes candy.

This is our first year, and I'm pretty excited. Our church sponsors a "Trick or Trunk" safe trick or treating, where church members decorate their vans and kids trick or treat in the parking lot. I am bringin candy around to every family, and asking them to be sure to give that candy to .

I've also heard that some families "buy back" the bad candy with good candy. We also have to deal with milk since he's allergic to milk as well! Since it's cold where you are, you may consider a party at your house, or if you know your neighbors reasonably well, you can bring candy to them like I'm doing at our church. I've found that people are usually pretty understanding!
