Guest guest
Lynn, My son could swallow capsules at 4-years old. Can you accomplish this? It was oodles easier for us to give supplements this way, and I think safer when getting a prescription (I've had problems with stuff in bottles from the pharmacy). Teri dag-nabit! Supplements I just spent quite a bit on the liquid supplements from kirkmans on my son not realizing those were illegal. My fault for buying them at the same time as buying the book. Drats! So, now I have to go back to pouring capsules in all of his food again? He was really enjoying his foods today too I think without all the stuff in it. Is there any liquid calcium/magnesium that anyone knows of that is legal? It's a much easier way to get calcium in my son. Also- I thought I posted earlier, but must not have as I haven't seen the post... I would like to know how many have jumped in on the goat yogurt that have had their child GFCF. How different is the protein? This was an extreme area for my son on the intolerance testing and blood testing for proteins 6 months into the diet. I'm brave enough if I hear enough ok's. And, my son has had normal BM's for months now. So, does this indicate he will be ok on most foods? Should we wait for possible die off first? He has had only a minor die-off, once ever. Even with the illegal supplements today, he is way more verbal, but this is a typical initial reaction to everything we do. Guest guest
Lynn, If you haven't unwrapped the bottles, you may be able to exchange them for legal versions. I wouldn't pour the supplements into his food because it does make everything taste bad. Have you ever tried just mixing them in a small amount of a strong juice (like purple grape juice) and using a medicine dropper and putting in in his mouth, then follow it with a drink of water or more grape juice-plain? That way it would be overwith quickly and his food wouldn't be " contaminated " . As for calcium, I think the Kirkman's calcium powder is fine and it can be used in baking. Even though your son doesn't have stool issues anymore, it still seems that the people who start with the intro diet see results more quickly than those who just switch to eating anything that's SCD legal from the very beginning. The nature of the SCD is one of healing and gradual progress. It starts with a restricted list of foods and gradually adds more and more foods. The body heals and can tolerate a wider selection of foods. This is the exact opposite of what we saw with GFCF (which was amazing for behavior for us and we were on it for over 3 years). But with GFCF, it kept seeming like my boys continued to develop more and more sensitivities rather than healing. Pecanbread.com has lots of great info on starting the SCD with kids and tons of great recipes (over 100). Guest guest
It's unwrapped and he's had them today and yesterday. I'll just take the calcium myself. I'll forfeit the $ on the vitamins if it will gain speech! I think I read welchs grape juice is ok? I have some of that on hand and could try it that way. Guest guest
I'm not sure he would. I may try it, but we've only just jumped into communication. He is also blind, so I can't show him, but it might be possible. (bday was last wed, just turned 4) I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Guest guest
I baked Kirkman minerals (opening the capsules) into his muffins. He does not seem to notice a difference, and that way I do not have to fool around with the minerals settling into the bottom of his juice glass. Minerals do not change with heat and therefore can be baked with, according to my DAN doc. Alice dag-nabit!
