Every dr my son has been to has said the same thing about iodine and I think it

is probably true. My son could not tolerate it, so we never used it. I use it

and love it.

My son's new dr, who is D.O. but uses homeopathic, etc in his practice

mentioned high levels of iodine having helped some kids with their attention

issues. Has anyone ever done this? I don't remember the exact amount, but it

was well above the toxic level.

I keep seeing posts about Iodine and bad reactions so I wanted to reply even tho

i usually just read. My son and I have been on Iodine replacement for 2 months.

I personally believe the root cause of all of it (autism, adhd, depression,

bipolar, auto-immune, everything!) is a malfunctioning thyroid (injured by

vaccines) and Iodine deficiency, but i digress and didnt want to go into a long

post about my theory, I belive Iodine is the key to the cure.

The initial " bad " reaction can be likened to die off. Mine lasted about 2 weeks,

was about as bad as a flu/cold. The improvments are nothing short of astounding.

I have lost weight(25 lbs), depression, fungus, bacteria and most likely latent

viruses. My mood and energy is remarkabley changed.

My son's initial reaction was worse than mine (he's non verbal ASD and

probably more latent viruses etc.) so i did lower the dosage and then pushed

thru. It took about 2 weeks to level off. There has been no bad reaction since,

even tho i increased him back to 3 drops per day. He is now at 4 drops per day.

I am at 5. Lugols solution 2%.

So I do believe that once you start the iodine the die off is what people are

experiencing that experience a bad reaction. The more bacteria, yeast, fungus,

virus, etc may determine how bad the reaction and a lower dosage may be

warranted if the symptoms are too severe. It could also be the temporary Iodine

increase in the thyroid causes hypothyroid symtoms, but that would level off too

once the thyroid relearns how much it should " hold " . But getting thru that

inital discomfort knowing it wont come back can help.

had many behaviors that have been controlled somewhat thru biomed

(taurine, mb12, gaba, relora, etc) but never eliminated. If the biomed stopped

the behaviors returned. Now, those behaviors are dissappearing completely with

iodine replacement. His attention is much better. His verbal " chatter " is

increasing. He has many more calm moments. I have smelled the same metallic smell

in his BMs as when chelating. His acne is all but gone. He is losing body fat

noticably now but I havent weighed him. The changes in him the last 2 months are

nothing I ever saw with just biomed and just too many to list! I still give him

Tyrosine, magnesium, calcium, gaba, taurine, selinium, mb12,zinc,molybdenum and

biotin. However, now if I forget to give him the biomed he doesnt turn into a

screaming bouncing laughing boy. His aggressive behaviors, also somewhat

controlled with biomed are gone now.

So while it may cause discomfort for a few weeks, the benefits are amazing and I

would recommend everyone do further research. All the biomedical supps help

treat the symptoms, the Iodine treats the root cause of the symptoms.

How do you test for an iodine deficiency? Is it just standard bloodwork? Thanks,CamTo: mb12 valtrex From: mossyforrest@...Date: Wed, 5 Aug 2009 21:01:58 +0000Subject: Re: iodine

There are tests they can do for iodine deficiency. I believe they measure the

output compared to input thru urine, but havent really investigated the tests. I

think i read too that the tests can be falsely negative.

I did the iodine patch test on us. Put a circle of iodine on your skin. If its

gone within 24 hours you are iodine deficient. Mine was gone in an hour. s

was gone in 30 minutes. Now, mine is gone in about 6 hours. His about 4. It's

probably not scientific but that and research is what made me start replacement.

Not Cheryl but we do the iodine patch testing too and we use CVS brand it is the

iodine tincture in the first aid aisle. Make sure it is not clear, you want the

color so you can see what's happening. I believe any of the drugstore brands are

fine.

Just to be clear, I think (could be wrong) the tincture is not to be ingested.

Its fine to use on skin. Not sure if the ratio/solution is the same. The Lugols

is ingestable.

Transdermal uptake is 3 times less than ingestion. So if you want your dosage

to be 5 drops you would need to put 15 drops on your skin to equal what you

drink.

I just wanted to add to the iodine skin test:

Our DAN pediatrician also sees my NT teenage dd and she just had inconsistent

findings on her thyroid tests. She is already supplementing selenium (one of

the building blocks for thyroid), so he said we should try the patch test to see

if she might benefit from iodine supplementation.

He told her to paint a 1 in. by 1 in. square on the inside of her forearm using

a 2% iodine tincture that you can get at Walgreens. If it disappears completely

within 8 hrs, you are deficient. If it is still there in 24 hrs, you are not

deficient. If it disappears somewhere in between 8 and 24, you may be

deficient. Hers disappeared in 4 hrs.

I thought I would try the test out with her and mine also disappeared within 4

hrs. It made me feel bad though! I had a metallic/salty sort of taste in my

mouth along with increased salivation. I was also nauseated and had a headache.

I had a burning sensation in the nose, like when water has got up there or when

you are getting a cold. Funny enough, these are some of the symptoms of iodine

toxicity. Not sure why that is...

We haven't had her follow-up appt. yet to know what he wants to do about

supplementation.

Yes. has been on supps for several years. He was getting unmanageable

with behaviors and agression and I had to find a solution. So much so the school

was thinking he would need 2 aides! Or worse. So the supps did help his

symptoms. He had severe self injurious behaviors before supps too. It took a

while for me to figure out which ones and what but he had become very compliant,

still is. He enjoyed school more, he was learning alot faster. He screamed

less. Able to work independantly after as well. So they were helping to

alleviate some of the symptoms and heal very slowly perhaps, but i think they

just werent treating the root cause. He was always having yeast behaviors and

following the protocol always helped. Also, some pretty weird immune problems,

so the supps helps those too. But stop the supps and everything would flare

back.

So i think it is important to have the supps while reloading iodine. The body is

still in the same condition and becoming iodine sufficient takes time and they

with the iodine help the thyroid heal.

That's good to know. What about for supplementing for yourself? Also, what

helped with attention. My son still on Valtrex, LDN and his attention is

terrible, he doesn't look up to see what is going on. Seems worse lately, been

on Nizoral awhile now.

Thanks.

I take mag, calcium, taurine, potassium, Selenium, biotin, tyrosine,

molybdenum, and MB12. In the past i have used GSE,OofO, OLE for

yeast, colds, ailments. Krill oil. Tried alot more.

I think it is more of the combo of supps that helps with the attention and

behaviors. Attention is just another behavior. And motivation. I know with

motivation is the biggest key to attention. If he isnt motivated he isnt

going to attend. With biomed he is alot more tolerate at finding motivation tho.

What they are defficient in is controlling both. If the thyroid malfunction is

creating low mag, taurine, high viral and they are not excreting metals and

their guts are messed up as a result then their neurotransmitters and other

brain processes are not working right. Asking them to attend (especially if they

find it boring, frustrating, useless, etc) when all this is haywire is a bit

like torture! SO finding if they need more mag, or enzymes to break down

proteins or antivirals or whatever the thyroid/low iodine is causing helps to

determine what the thyroid needs help with all cures the attention. It's all a

cycle.

So seeing how the person symptoms are presenting would determine what supps

would help with attention by getting to the root cause of the problem.

Typically mag, taurine, gaba(only for a few), CLO, help with attention, even

digestive enzymes for some, so you can speculate these are needed by the thyroid

to help with processing all the various hormones, enzymes, etc, so that

everything works right.

And relora and theanine help some.

And, Iodine.

I just bought the iodine, I'm anxious to test us all. I know is already

low thryroid , but suspect he may need it. He is gettting only zinc, selenium,

chromium. Do you use a good mineral supplement for ?

We did a round of DMSA over the weeekend. Maybe he needs taurine, I did take it

out, I'll add it back to see. too is very motivated if it is something he

likes.

Of course, we are still battling yeast with the valrex and Ldn. I may need a

new antifungal.

Thanks for the info and let me know about the minerals, he must be low..I really

appreciate it.

So, if I'm reading your post correctly, just doing that patch test with iodine - that small amount, topically - made you feel bad? I want to try iodine with my son, but this tells me I probably need to go very slowly with him.

I just wanted to add to the iodine skin test:Our DAN pediatrician also sees my NT teenage dd and she just had inconsistent findings on her thyroid tests. She is already supplementing selenium (one of the building blocks for thyroid), so he said we should try the patch test to see if she might benefit from iodine supplementation.

He told her to paint a 1 in. by 1 in. square on the inside of her forearm using a 2% iodine tincture that you can get at Walgreens. If it disappears completely within 8 hrs, you are deficient. If it is still there in 24 hrs, you are not deficient. If it disappears somewhere in between 8 and 24, you may be deficient. Hers disappeared in 4 hrs.

I thought I would try the test out with her and mine also disappeared within 4 hrs. It made me feel bad though! I had a metallic/salty sort of taste in my mouth along with increased salivation. I was also nauseated and had a headache. I had a burning sensation in the nose, like when water has got up there or when you are getting a cold. Funny enough, these are some of the symptoms of iodine toxicity. Not sure why that is...

We haven't had her follow-up appt. yet to know what he wants to do about supplementation. >>

I give my son Chelate Mate which has iodine. He gets 1/2 tablespoon of Chelate Mate per day, which contains 50 mcg of iodine. Is this enough?

Yes, that's correct. Within probably about 15 minutes of putting it on my skin,

I had the strange taste in my mouth and was salivating. The other symptoms set

in within an hour. They slowly went away throughout the day, but I didn't feel

normal again until the next day.

Cheryl,

Thanks so much for your post. You answered a mystery for me.

I had read a lot about how we are not getting the right kind of iodine in our foods but when I supplemented with the

right kind', all three of us got depressed and didnt' feel good.

When I posted a question on this to the slow-dose-chelation group, no one seemed to know why.

Now I know to keep pushing on, though I will do it slowly.

I keep seeing posts about Iodine and bad reactions so I wanted to reply even tho i usually just read. My son and I have been on Iodine replacement for 2 months. I personally believe the root cause of all of it (autism, adhd, depression, bipolar, auto-immune, everything!) is a malfunctioning thyroid (injured by vaccines) and Iodine deficiency, but i digress and didnt want to go into a long post about my theory, I belive Iodine is the key to the cure. The initial "bad" reaction can be likened to die off. Mine lasted about 2 weeks, was about as bad as a flu/cold. The improvments are nothing short of astounding. I have lost weight(25 lbs), depression, fungus, bacteria and most likely latent viruses. My mood and energy is remarkabley changed. My son's initial reaction was worse than mine (he's non verbal ASD and probably more latent viruses etc.) so i did lower the dosage and then pushed thru. It took about 2 weeks to level off. There has

been no bad reaction since, even tho i increased him back to 3 drops per day. He is now at 4 drops per day. I am at 5. Lugols solution 2%.So I do believe that once you start the iodine the die off is what people are experiencing that experience a bad reaction. The more bacteria, yeast, fungus, virus, etc may determine how bad the reaction and a lower dosage may be warranted if the symptoms are too severe. It could also be the temporary Iodine increase in the thyroid causes hypothyroid symtoms, but that would level off too once the thyroid relearns how much it should "hold". But getting thru that inital discomfort knowing it wont come back can help. had many behaviors that have been controlled somewhat thru biomed (taurine, mb12, gaba, relora, etc) but never eliminated. If the biomed stopped the behaviors returned. Now, those behaviors are dissappearing completely with iodine replacement. His attention is much better. His verbal

"chatter" is increasing. He has many more calm moments. I have smelled the same metallic smell in his BMs as when chelating. His acne is all but gone. He is losing body fat noticably now but I havent weighed him. The changes in him the last 2 months are nothing I ever saw with just biomed and just too many to list! I still give him Tyrosine, magnesium, calcium, gaba, taurine, selinium, mb12,zinc,molybdenu m and biotin. However, now if I forget to give him the biomed he doesnt turn into a screaming bouncing laughing boy. His aggressive behaviors, also somewhat controlled with biomed are gone now. So while it may cause discomfort for a few weeks, the benefits are amazing and I would recommend everyone do further research. All the biomedical supps help treat the symptoms, the Iodine treats the root cause of the symptoms. Cheryl,

I find your postings about iodine deficiency very interesting, because me and my

son are very deficient also (our test patches disappear only within 2-3 hours)

and my NAET doctor thinks also that this is big part of the problem.

So, you do the patch test with Lugols solution 2%, but which brand have you

found to be best for the the iodine replacement for your son?

You refer that you give him 5 drops of something every day, is this again from

Lugols 2%?

Thanks,

Krassi
