Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 The natural insulin our body produces is ___ as potent as the synthetic human insulin we inject. 1. Is the same potency 2. 5x as potent 3. 10x as potent 4. 20x as potent 5. 25x as potent The Insulin that our body makes is 25 times as concentrated as the insulin that we inject. That is one of the reasons why our body also makes glucagon. Glucagon is much less potent than insulin and is secreted in larger amounts to prevent blood glucose from dropping too low in response to secreted insulin. Amylin, which is produced in the same beta cells of the pancreas, also has a regulatory effect on glucagon, and helps fine tune the ratio of glucagon and concentrated insulin. Guest guest Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 The insulin our bodies make (or did make) is also timed perfectly for when it's needed, and is also delivered directly into the bloodstream and gone within I believe seven minutes, or some very short span of time similar to that. And now it's also 25 times as potent as what we inject? I find that amazing. No wonder it's so hard to control blood sugars manually.
