We shoot for less than ten percent for PT, OT and ST . But if you have a

good scheduler who prepares patients on the waiting list just in case

someone cancels, you can pretty much fill the cancellations easily. The

key is to discuss this with the patients upon admission that it is

expected that they fully participate with the program.

I would be interested in the same benchmark along with units of service

per 8 hour day benchmark.

We are outpatient orthopedic hospital based and average 12-15% CA/NS

rates on a consistent basis for years. Sporatically it can be as low as

9-10% but not very often.

In the four years of my PT Benchmark studies (FY2002 through FY2005) the

median cancel/no-show rate (combined) was 12.8% for the four years, ranging

from a low of 11.0% in FY 2005 to a high of 13.2% in FY2003.

Of course, it all depends on how you define a cancel and no-show. The study

uses the following definitions:

Cancel = Called and canceled the same day as the appointment. If they

cancel the day before it's a delete because you have the opportunity to fill

that slot with another patient.

No-show = Didn't call and did not show.

They are averages for a year, but I typically look at them on a weekly and

monthly basis. A given day can vary significantly.

The PT Benchmark percentages I assume are per day? Or per week?

Thanks.
