Guest guest
Actually, there is NO Medicare reimbursement for Anodyne or any other MIRE modality. The 97126 code is intended for heating modalities with IR. Medicare is however currently investigating MIRE for reimbursement. I don't have the specific reference at hand however. Currently MIRE is an uncovered benefit and patients can be billed with appropriate informed consent. As a profession we need to be careful in letting reimbursement drive practice. They are two distinctly different issues. Treatment should be based on the best available evidence, which for anodyne is currently mixed. My 2 cents, Mark Re: anodyne We have an anodyne unit and to my knowledge the only thing approved through clinical trials is for diabetics however we have had some success with other patient and pain control. The unit is expensive and the reimbursement is extremely low as well as the patients are on the unit 30-45 per visit. Medicare reimbursement on this is about $4.00.
