We are using Altapoint at 18 locations we have and have found it to be

wonderful. It also has integrated appointment scheduling combined with a billing

system. We are currently building PT-specific Electronic Medical Record

templates to use as well. We've been VERY happy with it. Starting price for the

billing/appointment scheduling is around $1500 for 5 users. Robin

needs. I decided not to use it because it is a relatively new program and

the cost was high.

I had decided to research it more, as I had a lot of questions in terms of

implementation, long term support, their financial projections, etc.

Ask a lot of questions, speak with other practices that have been using it,

speak both with clinicians and administrative managers and get their feedback.

I have used PTOS for billing since 1986 and combined it with Spectrasoft for

scheduling a few years ago. The crossover of information from both programs

leaves a lot to be desired, to the point that, after investing in Redoc for

documentation, which supposedly, also transfers data with PTOS, I have not

begun using it as of yet. I have not wanted to re-invest $$ in a new program

that may do all billing, sch and documentation, but I am getting closer to cut

my losses and start all over again.

Just a quick note that there are a few companies right now that offer

integrated software solutions. Two that I can name right off the top of my head

are:

Clinicient

Raintree

I also know that the APTA has been working on a solution with a vendor and

someone on this list can probably speak about it.

Both Clinicient and Raintree have been approaching the integrated solution

from different angles. Clinicient was developed as a documentation tool by a

Physical Therapist. As recently as 2003 they had some changes at the top of

their organization and purchased a medical billing software program to integrate

with their documentation program (which included scheduling). Raintree came

from the opposite direction. They have a long standing medical billing

software package and about 3 years ago started working with a couple of Physical

Therapists to develop a documentation package.

Both packages have been called " pricey " by therapists, but if you sit down

and study what they can help you accomplish, they are very cheap (I think it is

all in your perception). We purchased Raintree back in 2003 when the HIPAA

transactions went into effect. The one difference that I can tell you about

with the two packages is that Raintree offers a bit more flexibility when it

comes to the documentation piece. Both companies offer the " BLACK MODEL T "

version of documentation. Many therapists don't like that model. So Raintree

offers alternatives like the following:

1. You can continue to hand write your notes and scan them in to the system

for storage purposes.

2. You can transcribe a note using a microphone attached to your PC. This

note is stored as a .WAV file and can be made a permanent part of the patient

record (until you have it transcribed-in which case the .WAV file can be

deleted and the transcribed note saved as the permanent record).

3. You can have your paper note copied in as a template and using a tablet

PC, write your note and store that as a permanent record.

I hope this helps you and others in the process of looking at products. I am

sure others can relate their experiences with other products as well. If you

need any contact information for either of these products, let me know and I

will give you names of contacts at either of these companies.

I did allot of research on software and found that the PT Advantage Software was

the best choice for our office. I looked at combining pakcages like PTOS with

Redoc etc, but it just didn't make sense after looking at the Advantage

Software. I have been happy with it, and the support is pretty good too.

Just my two cents. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
