Guest guest
hi - ((((((((((sarah))))))) welcome. we are a fabulous group and I am glad you chose us. We are well over 2000 loving people who have lots of information, education, motivation and love to freely give out and we do that on a daily basis. Many of us are old timers and some of us are new. I had my surgery almost three years ago and some are weeks old. Things with our surgery keep changing so you are lucky. When I had my surgery there were very few of us to consult and it was rough. Now, it is easier and almost " design " now. Wishing you the best. Joyce Joyce Blavat " People do not make a change until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change. Guest guest
welcome Sara and best of luck to ya Intro > Greetings, > > My name is , and I'm new to the list. *waving hello* > > I live in Richmond VA, with my two kitties. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a number of good friends in the area, too, so I'm not alone much! > > I have my initial consultation with Dr. on the 31st of this month; both my PCP and the folks I've talked to in the surgeon's office don't expect any problems with me getting approved. I'm 5'5 " and my BMI is 41 (I weigh 252). Yes, I'm nervous. But I've had some great support! > > I am really lucky to work with two women that have been kind enough to share their experiences with me, even offering to go with me to the support group meetings. I have another two or three lady friends that have had the surgery and have done the same. > > Anyhow, that's not really much of an intro but it's the best I can manage at the moment > > Thanks, > > > > > > To Subscribe to 's weekly FREE Newsletter send an email to GBCookbook-subscribe@... >
Guest guest
Post in context: > Did you get to read the book? It will help you with knowing why it works, and how to make it work better. Yes, I got the book - but honestly, (embarrassed look) the technical stuff was a lil boring so I just kinda skimmed over it but I will got back and read it again > > Yes, I am unhealthy but my cholesterol isn't as bad. It was over 200 and is a little under now. My blood pressure was high and now it is normal and low. I weighed 305 when I started in Oct 03 and am now 247. Long way to go but I will get there. I can't even imagine going back to the way I used to eat. WOW! What an impressive weight loss! That is awesome! Good for you! You must be getting ready to shop in the " regular " dept stores huh? How exciting! Oh - 1400 was my TOTAL cholesterols - both ldl and hdl - too high to measure either one by themselves - that was awhile back too, I need another test. > > You can have the dressing you said has to go as long as it has 3 grams of sugar in it or under. Any dressing is fine as long as you watch the sugar. That's good information! > > It doesn't matter what times you eat but you have to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks evenly spaced out. Yes, it is important, even if you are not hungry. One reason is because your body is going to go into starvation mode thinking you are not feeding it enough, and you are not. It will hold onto every fat cell and won't let it go and you will stall eventually or even gain. The other reason is that this diet has you keeping your blood sugar level all day long, that is the reason you need to eat every few hours. You are trying to reset your blood chemistry to work more efficiently which is going to give you the healthy results. How you are eating is not healthy for your body. You are not only looking for weightloss, you are looking for good health or you won't be around to get that degree. Your brain also needs that nutrition to function normally. Your body is like a machine and if you don't give it the right nutrition, it dies. Keeping your blood sugar level throughout the day also helps keeps cravings away and any eventual binging. You will not get the healthy results you want if you don't treat your body right. It's okay to start out with the snack and then have the meal at noon, then another snack 3 hours later, lunch (even if it's not at what normal people would call a lunch hour), 3 hours later a snack, and then dinner. If you eat something a little while before you go to sleep, you will keep your blood sugar level throughout the night until you eat again in the morning. It really is important even if you aren't hungry. Your body will get used to it and needs it. Good luck, Carol I got up and made a lo-fat cheese eggbeaters omlet after I read this...lol. Ok, this makes a bit more sense now. My body is in starvation mode even tho it doesn't feel like it - so it's " keeping " everything it gets. Makes sense, cause I eat less than all my skinny friends. (grrr) " Eat good foods to lose weight. " <-- Gotta pound that into my brain. I have heard this before but I am determined to make this diet work this time!!! Maybe you'll have to put that as a tag line in every post to me Carol...lol. Ok, and I will just eat at different times of the day - what isn't " normal " for everyone else in my family....ok - I am ON it! Thanks for the inspiration Carol! Virtual HUGS! Guest guest
Yes I take Vit E capsule and Mult Vit everyday - Don't know if it's " good " or not - but it was cheap! <G> > PS. If you plug what you eat into fitday.com, you will see that you are not getting enough calories or nutrition. Even with a well balanced diet your body isn't getting enough nutrition and I would highly recommend a good multi-vitamin at least once a day, along with eating more of course. Even with the good multi, you still need the food nutriants. They go hand in hand. > > Carol
Guest guest
Thanks for the advice and inspiration -Beth! That's what I am hoping for - to empty out the medicine chest! > Yes...you must eat more than that. You must feed your body what it needs to > stay healthy. There are plenty of very busy people in this group that are > more than willing to share some tips about how to be prepared for this way > of eating. Water is also very important and so is exercise if you can get > it in. If you can get your hands on the book read it and it will explain in > more about your blood sugar and the GI of foods. You can do this and get > yourself of all the meds too. > > -Beth >
