Sounds like you're talking about my former doctor. I gave him printed literature from the NVA and he told me that they can put a name to anything. I haven't seen him since!

I have cried also at doctor's appointments. It gets so depressing going

to dr. after dr. and no one knows what's wrong. I've even had doctors give

me the cold shoulder after I cried to them and that just makes it worse!

Hang in there!

Hi !

Welcome to the group....I haven't posted in a while, but just wanted to

welcome you. Like yourself, I have bad pain upon the insertion of ANYTHING.

I have tried nortriptyline (which didn't do anything) and am now on

Neurontin. I use Estrace cream and have done PT, but with no success in the

pain department. My PT now thinks it's my skin and/or nerves which she can't

help. So that has been a bummer. I'm not sure what can help now. I, too,

get emotional anytime I talk about this condition or try to explain it to

anyone. In December I had to go to the ER because of an ovarian cyst that

erupted and none of the doctors there had ever heard of VVS! They didn't

seem to have ever seen anyone in so much agony during a pelvic exam. It's

hard to believe that so many doctors have never heard of this condition!

Anyways, I'm here for emotional support and whatever else....feel free to

write anytime!

Thank you . I will try calling Dr. Willems.

Please keep us updated on Dr. Kahn. It is very

frustrating isn't it?

Good luck!

Introduction

Hi, my name is Kathy, but I will answer to Leggs (a long-time nickname that

seems to serve me well in differentiating me from the plethora of other Kathys

on e-mail lists.) I have joined your group, but have been only lurking and not

posting since joining while I attempted to keep up with reading all of your

posts (an accomplishment which I have failed at miserably, I might add.) I am a

48 year old teacher with an almost 6 yr. old adopted son (dx last May) who is

the love of my life (Just don't tell my hubby, Dave!) I have enjoyed reading

about all of your children and several are memorable already: Putter, Jacqui,

, etc. I would like to tell you two stories about my son, Brandt, that

could make you laugh and know a little about this quirky little ray of sunshine

in my life.

While I teach at the local elem school(and have for 25 years GASP!) my son

attends a private school in a town 33 miles away, so I take him and pick him up

every day. We are, needless to say, on the road a LOT, so the fact that he is

obsessed with traffic signs comes in handy. One day while driving down the road

I heard him say, " Vagina Inn-18 miles.... Wonder why they call it that? " I

managed to splutter, " Wwhat? " to which he replied, " Vagina Inn. Kinda weird

name for a motel, huh? " It turns out that the sign really said, " Virginia INN-

18 miles. " Dave thought the name Brandt read would be a good one for one of

those hourly rate motels- what do you think?

We got new sweatshirts at our elem. a few weeks ago with this cute little

cartoon school on it and cartoon school helpers with actual names of people who

work in our building. Brandt doesn't attend the school, but of course, knows

everyone that I work with, and was delighting in reading the names and telling

their jobs: " Mrs. Wadsworth, the principal, Mrs. Hodam, the counselor, Mr.

, the PE teacher and....Mrs. Brandt? " " Mom, " he said, " do you have a Mrs.

Brandt at your school? " " Yes, " I told him. " She's the new school secretary. "

" Oh, " he said. " Mrs. Brandt... She must be my wife, but I've never met her. "

When I asked why he thought she was his wife, he said, " Mom, you told me Miss

means you're not married and Mrs. means you are married. If she's Mrs. Brandt,

she must be married to ME 'cuz I'm Brandt! " Hard to fault that logic, huh?

Have a great day and keep those posts comin'. I have a weekend to catch up!

My first test displayed 354. It was done by my cousin with a one touch kit. I

made an appointment with the Doctor that week. His test displayed 272, some

minor kidney damage, high cholesterol, no liver damage, which is odd since one

of my hobbies is making beer. But I bet I was probably up there in that range

over 6 months back.

I am now trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat, since his is my second

week. Does anyone know of a site that may list this type of information, or how

do I do a balance diet?

You and your doctor know him better than us. His doctors words may be a form

of " tough love " . Giving him the worse scenario so that he buckles down and gets

going right. There are several tests to check for damage. Urine, blood and eye

tests are the majority. They may have already taken samples and are just

waiting for the results to see how bad or god things may be.

As I stated before - when I was first diagnosed I had been living for months

(at least) with bGs around 500 and 600. All my tests turned out fine. Liver,

kidney, eyes, cholesterol - all were fine. I also weighed almost 400 lbs and

have been overweight all my life. Since then I have lost a little over 100 lbs.

Things may be alright with him. He may have no major complications. BUT in

order to remain that way he needs to start changing. Even small changes to the

better are better than no changes. Like the comic where the guy huffs and puffs

as he puts his gym clothes and gym shoes on. He then says that tomorrow he may

even do one exercise. =)

A journey of a thousand miles (and a lifetime) begins with one step. And

going a step at a time and continuing to go a step at a time without stopping or

backtracking is what we all need to do. However, being human, we all stop or

backslide at times. Just begin with that first step again.

Hi Steve,

I love your positive attitude.

In Aug of 2000, I got serious about diabetes and wanted off meds. I really

made a big change in the way I was eating, starting exercising more and lost

a total of 54 lbs. In Dec, 2000, my A1c was 7.5. I told my doctor that I

wanted off meds. Her reply was, " I don't think it will happen, you will

probably have to increase meds. " In Jan 2001, I started getting lows 2 hours

after eating. My doctor told me to cut my meds in half. That still did not

help and in Feb 2001, I discontinued diabetes meds.

I was also on two meds for high blood pressure. By June 2001, I was off both

of those meds.

I do not like the word " diet " . I control diabetes with sensible eating and

exercise.

Way to go Bruce. I am aiming for that goal. I was diagnosed last week with

type 2. Hearing that someone else was able to balance his body really gives me

some encouragement. When I ask my doctor if I could ever get off the drugs and

control this with diet and exercise, he did not answer. I am now going to prove

to him, I can control this with diet and exercise.

Introduction

Good morning everyone - my name is Candee and yesterday my husband

was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. At the doctor's office his blood

glucose level was 300. He is overweight and has never dieted in his

life. No one in his family has/had diabetes on either side.

I have so many questions. I have always had to watch my weight

because I'm short, and I have insulin resistance (I have PCOS) so I

am familiar with some of the workings of diabetes, but not much.

Also, I am angry with him. I have begged him for years to not drink

sugary Coke, to lose weight, to go for a walk with me. He has always

refused and did not seem to see a problem. I'm not sure how to work

through my anger.

As I am responsible for the cooking in our household, now I have to

learn a new way of cooking and shopping. I have chosen lowfat, no

sugar items before, but it was a choice, not a requirement. When I

consider that I will have to do this for the rest of his life (he's

42) I get really discouraged.

We are also concerned about how much damage he's done to his internal

organs. Is there a way to find out?

He goes back to the doctor in a week. So far he's on glucovance

twice a day. Last night, as he was sobbing in my arms, he said the

doctor's exact words were " MAYBE we can get a handle on this. " Our

doctor has also lectured him for years to lose weight and exercise.

He was diagnosed with high blood pressure last year and takes

prinivil.

I know he's capable of changing - I mean, he's certainly got the

intellect to learn this - but he has never shown any willpower about

much of anything in his whole life. I don't mean to be hard on him,

he's got many good points and I adore him, he's my soulmate and I'm

worried sick.

Thanks for listening and I look forward to learning much from this

group.

That is great to hear. Congratulations it only took you 1 year. That is a

very motivating factor for me at this point in my life.

I know I can do it

Today I tested 2 hours after eating 109, yesterday it was 110. This morning I

was at 141.

You are right diet is a bad word, I do like sensible eating or well balanced

meals.

Hi Pat,

I lost 54 lbs over two years ago. To me, that was a lot of weight. I have

gained a few lbs back, which pleases all of my doctors. They all thought I

had lost too much. I have no intentions of gaining any more weight, though.

It took me about 9 months to lose the 54 lbs.

11-7-94: went to ob doctor, sent me for mammogram same day, was told by the technician doing mammo to get ahold of my doctor asap, literally ran back up stairs to office and was ushered into office and was told area was very suspicious of being cancer.

11-9-94:needle biopsy

11-13-94: underwent regular biopsy and was told while i was still groggy that it was cancer

got a 2nd opion before thanksgiving and was told i had infiltrating in-sit-stu, at the time of biopsy, it appeared to be about 3cm

12-20-94: had radical mastectomy , no nodes involved and the tumor had grown from 3cm to 7.5 in just a month

had chemo, adrimyacin, 5fu, cytoxin, 6 cycles 3 weeks apart,

11-96: felt a thickening around the same area i had found first lump, it was back, had it resection, they took the rest of breast tissue that was covering the muscle and part of the muscle

12-96 started 56 rounds of radiation, 5 days a week

1-01: had routine chest x-ray, supicious spots on right lung and lymph node behind my throat was enlarge

2-01: had a biopsy of lymph node: it was back in lymph node and in my lung

Hi Debbie K.,

Welcome. I too needed some “faceless” support and have learned so much about living with bc from the women here. I love what you said about totally accepting this challenge in your life. I feel that I have done the same. I am 42, diagnosed with pervasive ductal carcinoma in situ in April and had a mastectomy/reconstruction in May. Every day is a new day.

Kimbell in MA

Just recently diagnosed by BC, did a lot of research on the internet, found

and then joined this group and now thought I'd come out of lurking mode and

introduce myself . . .

Deborah Kay Bohnsack (I'll sign as Debbie K, as we already have another

Debbie on the list)

Age 51 (52 in January, already signed up on the birthday list)

One child (Winnie, a 3 1/2 year old Field Trial black labrador retriever)

Live in Missouri (own and operate an RV Park with my husband Randy)

U.S. Air Force veteran (so being treated through VA Hospital in Columbia,

MO, with out-sourced oncology treatments at Missouri Cancer Associates in

Columbia, MO)

October 7 - mammography, followed by needle biopsy of lump in breast

October 14 - biopsy results positive for invasive ductal adenocarcinoma with

a 3.4 cm x 1.5 cm irregular shaped mass in upper outer quad of left breast

with 3 abnomal axillary lymph nodes

October 20 - Porta Cath inserted

October 24 - EKG, Echocardiogram, PET scan

October 29 - Bone scan and Abdominal/Pelvis exam

October 30 - chemotherapy treatment begins (every three weeks for 8

treatments)

Late March/early April - surgery

One of my Camping customers and one sister-in-law had BC 5 years ago and are

here to answer questions and give plenty of support. Unfortunately, neither

one does email so I joined this group. I hope you don't think the following

comment is crass . . . but sometimes I need to talk to somebody *faceless*

and not so close to me and that is where you all come in. I hope you

understand what I'm trying to say here.

I've already done quite a bit of internet research, read two books sent to

me by my best friend and am reading whatever else I can get my hands on.

I have totally accepted this new challenge in my life and don't want anybody

to feel sorry for me, just supportive.

I think that's enough of an intro for now. Will probably have questions in

the future.

Thanks for listening.

Debbie K
