,

I have a water schedule - one glass when I get up, one glass when I eat each

meal/snack/dessert, one glass in the car to work, one glass on the way home

and one glass before bed.

Otherwise I forget!

I know many who have popups/alarms on the puter, as was suggested earlier.

South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right

fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad

A friend said she had a lot less trouble if she drank HOT water, in a

teacup like coffee or tea, she could get it down more easily that way.

I didn't like it but I'll pass the tip along for anyone else to try :-)

Dear Friends,

I bought the SB book this past Saturday and read much of it over the weekend. I'd decided I was going to start on Wednesday since Tuesday night was a big family birthday party. Beginning on Wednesday, there was absolutely NOTHING on my calendar that would put me in a social situation of needing to feel awkward around food offerings, and on top of that, the school cafeteria is closed at this point, so it would be easy to carry the right kind of lunch with me. I work at an independent school and the food service is excellent; once school opens there will be good fish two or three times per week and two veggies each day, so that will really help me.

So I started yesterday, and really had no difficulties at all. Slightly headachy today but that may well be because I didn't have any coffee before I left home (though I did get a cup once I got to work). I felt like I got plenty to eat.

The thing that is so interesting is this: I've never been a very good sleeper, and since menopause I've been a dreadful sleeper. Last night I had SUCH a good night's sleep! (Except for getting up to pee a couple of times -- but I went right back to sleep.) If this is going to be a by-product of being on this diet, what a bonus!

So here I am on day two, just finished my tuna and greens and working on my water bottle. It is just my dear husband and myself at home and I told him he could either eat what I cook or cook what he wants. He's happy to eat what I fix, though I imagine he'll please himself at lunch. I'm looking to lose 70 or 80 pounds which sounds just overwhelming. Have decided that is too much to think about, so I'm focusing on staying on Phase One for these first two weeks, and then at the end of that time, I was thinking it would make sense to stay on Phase One for however much longer it takes to make a loss of 20 pounds. I think that setting shorter goals will be good for me.

The sleeping is a great bonus. Ever since I have been on the beach I have been sleeping better. I know I can attribute this to my food intake because when I have a bad eating day I sleep crappy.
