Guest guest
Ya.....Goldilocks, I would like those answers too. We eat out 1-2 times a week, and it's always a BIG thing I look forward to! I took my daughter to Sweet Tomatoes Sunday night before a movie, and was a little sad at what all I had to forego. My bluberries muffins, Wonton chicken salad, beets (my fave on salad), raisins, etc. So I got a plate of legal food, couldn smell the muffins, so figured I had better get some soup. Couldn't have the chicken noodle or the minestrone or the baked potatoe, so decided chili would be good and filling (SATISFYING). I picked up the ladle and let some pour out, and saw kidney beans in it. I thought.........GOOD.........I can EAT this! Halfway through the bowl I noticed pinto beans mixed in with the meat and kidney beans.........ugh. So I accidentally ate some illegal food. I kept thinking it tasted "too good"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I prefer pintos over any others.........was raised on them in South Texas). Anway, we love to eat out..........especially Mexican and Italian..........regular fare for us..........we also do Chinese. Funny thing is, my cardiologist studied over in Southern Italy for a year, and he said he lost 25 lbs. eating all the pasta and olive oil every day. How is that?? He marveled at how healthy the food was there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions for the chain restaurants?...........Please post menu items if you have it figured out for: Olive Garden......... Macaroni Grill......... Armadillo........... Bennigan's........... Applebee's.......... Outback Steakhouse....... Red Lobster.......... And any other big chains you might think of.......... Thanks! Guest guest
Off hand, I can't think of much on a Chinese menu that would be " ok to order. " Egg-flower soup maybe, depending on what's in it. Most sauces are loaded with cornstarch and sugar; chow mein is basically noodles so unless they're ww, I'd steer clear. Steamed fish or plain stir-fried veggies would be ok (most meat is lightly dusted with flour before stir-frying) and definitely no MSG. As for other restaurants, I'd say salads, fish, grilled meats and poultry (skinless and not breaded) are good choices. Skip the mexican rice and order whole beans (or black) instead of refried (lard). Fajitas (without the tortillas), carne asada (again without the tortillas), would probably be ok or grilled shrimp and fish. And make sure to tell the waiter ahead of time to NOT bring chips to your table!!! Soups like (Italian) Minestrone may be alright too, but watch for the pasta in some of them. It's hard but not impossible! When I eat out these days, it's only seafood restaurants, or places that grill their meats and poultry. Places that allow me to make substitutions are high on my list -- if they don't allow them, I take my business elsewhere. Good luck goldilocks!!! Cissy --------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone know what would be OK to order in a Chinese restaurant on phase 1? Chicken with cashews? Egg foo yong??? I would assume that the sweeter sauces are full of sugar and I know to ask for things without MSG. But what about something like Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken with Broccoli, spicy green beans or Beef with Oyster Sauce? I'm craving Chinese food and am going on vacation next week so I'll be eating out a lot and would love to make one meal Chinese. If I would be allowed to continue asking questions, too... What about other Ethnic fare? Italian? Mexican? Suggestions for eating out at these types of places would be very helpful.
Guest guest
I think Chinese would probably be the worst place to go on phase 1! LOL! Do you have a Mongolian BBQ place nearby? There you choose your own food and they cook it for you so you can control what goes in it. Maureen
