Guest guest
I had leg cramps too. I switched to salt substitute during the daytime at work. It is made of potassium and that worked for me. Other people found help with calcium supplements. Are you taking a daily mulit-vitamin? Maureen
Guest guest
If you are experiencing leg cramps, you may want to check your dairy intake. Several family members have had bad leg cramps and it was found that dairy was the main cause. Guest guest
I had horrendous leg cramps at the beginning of south beach. I would wake up with Charlie horses, and the bottom of my feet would spasm so bad my toes curled down. My legs ached all day. I took Calcium, vitamins and even ate the "fake" salt which is potassium to no avail. I took myself to the dr and they checked my electrolytes as well as cpk ( was a check for muscle breakdown in my legs) Everything was normal. I was adviced to drink tonic water which gagged me, YUK. Never did find out what caused those cramps, but within a few days I started phase 2 and about 3-4 weeks into phase 2 all the cramps stopped. So my advice to you is, if you are done your 2 weeks of phase 1, do not stay on it longer. Progress to phase 2. There was something definitely missing in my diet in Phase 1 that caused this and personally I was not going to wait and find out until something got bad enough that it showed in bloodwork. It wasn't lack of calcium, because I INCREASED my calcium intake both through supplements and yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I always drink a lot of water because I have to avoid dehydration to prevent sinus infections and migraines.......so THAT wasn't it either! I would love to know what the real answer to this is. Janice in Denver

It wasn't lack of calcium Try to increase your magnesium and potassium which made my cramps disappear. Some people find drinking club soda with quinine helps with cramps.
