My understanding..

With cereals, at least 5g of fiber. You want no *added* sugar. (with cereals,

they usually are not artificially sweetened... so, you don't have to worry about

that) You just dont' want to eat a cereal with sugar added. Since Kashi Go

Lean Crunch has 13g of sugar, that makes me suspect that it has added sugar.

And, lastly, should have whole grains in it. Look at the ingredients... are the

first ingredients enriched, or whole wheat/grains?

This cereal is probably whole grains.

My one drawback on this cereal is the added sugar (I have a tough time believing

13g of sugar occurs naturally)

I would not worry about the exact grams of sugar, as long as when you read the

ingredients, you don't see sugar or something like high fructose corn syrup

listed. I wouldn't worry about the fat grams, either. Odds are... if you are

getting a whole grain cereal with no sugar added... it probably won't be full of

fat. Oh, one more thing, be sure there are not any transfats in the

ingredients.

Hope this helps

It does have some added sugar(evaporated cane juice and brown rice

syrup) in the middle of the ingredients and all of the grain are

whole. I am ok with the sugar I am doing phase 1.5 b/c I am nursing

so the little added unrefined sugar is ok with me. I have been having

natural unprocessed sugar in my coffee and I am still loosing.

What about other things besides cereal? DO I just want to make sure

anything has 5g fiber no trans fat and no processed grain. We

basically eat only organic food anyway and not much processed stuff

but I still want to sort this out.

thanks

For the sugar... it is not as much about losing itself for most people. Instead, it is about not having the same cravings. If you can eat the unrefined sugar, and not have it make your blood sugar go wacky, and you have cravings for sweets/carbs... than, it works for you.

As for what to look for... the 5g of fiber is for cereal. For bread, look for 3g of fiber. Look for whole grains, no added sugars, and no transfats.
