Guest guest
My son started having one of his cold/cough bouts yesterday accompanied with fever. After using Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) in both his ears and also for gargling, his fever and other symptoms have gone away (knock on wood). However his cough and sneezes are continuing and the congestion has taken hold. Please share you ideas/experiences for getting rid of the congestion, coughing & sneezing. Thanks Sanjay
Guest guest
Increasing probiotics intake either in supplements or fermented foods, yogurt, kefir, etc has proven to work for my children. For probiotic supplements, I like the new Primal Defense Ultra from Garden of Life or other soil based probiotics are the more effective probiotics, IMO. Guest guest
Hi Therapuetic grade essential oils and homeopathic remedies are very effective and even better is that they are great preventatives. I use young living brand essential oils. They have some oil blends that are great for colds -Thieves(preventative, sore throat), R.C (congestion, runny nose)., Melrose (sore throat, boo boos, etc.) as well as oregano and thyme ( & many others). you will NOT get the same results from oils you typically find in a store, etc. The " complicated " thing (IMO) is that the company is a multi-level marketing sort of thing, but they are very strong, pure and effective and i wont use anything but their oils. I have heard there is a company out of Canada that is close - some of you may know of other sources etc. I would actually love to hear about it if you do know of other sources, if you feel there is somewhere out there as good. You can buy the Essential Oil Desk Reference (EDR)book from Essential Science Publishing (online) - this book explains each oil and gives recommendations for ailments and then some (directly related to the YL products). oils can be rubbed on feet, or affected areas) Garden of Life has a very awesome product called SEASONAL RELIEF (FDA made them change the name from Cold & Flu). I disolve a tablet in water for my little ones. We use the GOL probiotic in powder form for the kids. homeopathically - Boiron has a product for flu - oscillococcinum. Hylands has many childrens remedies etc. belladonna is a good one to keep on hand for fever etc. - i recommend getting a good book on homeopathy to understand the basis of it if this is an avenue you would like to explore. Remedies are chosen according to symptoms and characteristics etc. Breastmilk is the most effective remedy for earaches - drops into ears. (pink eye also). I am no longer nursing a child but have some in the freezer (from a friend) just in case..... 2 nights ago one of my kids had 2 earraches. one treatment of breastmilk, she went to bed and woke up doing cartwheels. my experience is that it only takes one or two applications. it is a rarity in our house for earraches to appear. our daily vitamin is a liquid vitamin that consists of seaweed in a base of aloe, honey and cherry. Body Balance is the brand (another MLM) it is 98% absorbed and is a food so it is considered safe for all ages. I have tried other brands but this one works the best for us. I have used it as a prenatal (with twins) as well. I up there amount when they area fighting something off. For Vit C - I give them Emergen-C. There is a type without sugar (Lite) I also use echinacea tincture. There is a brand specifically for kids - Herbs for Kids. that should be a good start. There are a lot of good things out there - they are just not as easy to find as the bad things (just like food). Guest guest
This one has a few studies to back it up: http://www.coldcure.com I can't say for sure whether or not it works as it's one of those things where if you take it quickly enough (i.e. just when you feel a cold coming on), it will completely eliminate the cold. This is pretty much what happened for me, but it could always be that I wasn't really getting sick. At any rate, he's sold the patent to a drug company so it will likely be prescription-only fairly soon. Good luck! Guest guest
I swear by garlic and ginger....garlic is a natural antibiotic and antiviral...If I can get it in the kids by chopping and covering with honey on a spoon I do (little one will take it this way). I also make garlic lemonade (steep a few cloves of minced garlic in about 2 c. hot water...use this water to make lemonade with fresh lemon and honey)...the kids will take this fine. For myself, I prefer ginger tea (1/2 inch of ginger minced and steeped in 8 oz hot water then I add about 2 T. lemon juice). I love garlic, so I don't add it to my drink since I get alot...but you can add the garlic to this if you want...I have another one called west indies cocktail...I just shared it on another group...you have to slug it because it is so strong....it definitely clears you out though... Combine 1/2 cup lemon juice, 2 T. vinegar, 1 clove crushed garlic, 1 t. grated ginger, and a dash of cayenne. Also, I will take extra vitamin C and I like echinacea tea....make sure it has the angustifola (sp?) variety in it...not as common in most of the common ones, but it is the better one for you. I haven't had a cold in several years...started getting one right about my due date with youngest, but did the above and it only lasted about 2 days....mine always used to last 2-3 weeks. Guest guest
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I often tend to forget something or the other that I have used before. This time I completely forgot the " Eucalyptus Oil " even though it was right there in front of my eyes. Thanks for the reminder and lots of other useful information. My son is doing better now.
