Guest guest
Hi Greg, God question! I think by the time you are scanned post- RAI tx, the 131I has gone to the thyca and is already concentrated there, doing its' job. Mine was to determine that I got a large enough dose to get past the neck mets and to the chest mets. Sometimes a post-scan will show additional mets that the smaller scan dose didn't catch. I hope this is not the case for you and that the docs find exactly what they are looking for. I didn't know anyhting about LID back then. My doctor did wait about nine days before putting me back on Synthroid. in OH ===== Mail to: grammyDx2@... 1965 TT P/F thyca w/lymph mets, Hypoparathyroidism 1982 RAI for neck & chest mets 09/10/01 Cean scan PTL~! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Greg, The scan you will have shows where there is uptake of RAI. Within a day or two of administering the RAI, most of what was going to be taken up was already taken up. You excrete most of the rest (the large part of the dose). So, no, you no longer have to deprive yourself of synthroid or iodine which make the thyroid like tissues active in taking -up iodine. Synthroid and iodine now aren't going to change anything since you have already loaded the RAI into the tissues that will take it up. The wait of ten days lessens the amount of extra RAI and gives a more accurate picture of what tissues took up the dose of RAI. Eat and metabolize once more! gregwinston6352 wrote: I have just completed my first RAI, and I have a question about the follow up total body scan (TBS)which will take place next week: Since I am no longer on the LID, and I am now taking Synthroid, what does the second TBS measure? If it's purpose is to measure existing thyroid tissue, shouldn't I be off Synthroid, in hypo, and on LID? Thanks, Greg Winston For more information regarding thyroid cancer visit www.thyca.org.
