metabolism and weight loss

Since I'm just now on 1/2 g of Armour, I know I have a ways to go to get my metabolism in good enough shape to stop gaining weight and start losing. But, will taking the right dose for me guarantee that exercising and a sensible diet will allow weight loss? Will I see that what I've been doing all along (which should work) will finally start working? Or, being hypothyroid, will it always be a struggle in spite of adequate medication and good labs? I do NOT want to gain back the weight I had already lost. But I'm so tired that I can only exercise so-so right now. And, I know I am probably tempted to turn to too much food/comfort food now, because I've been so frustrated and discouraged about my health for so long. But.... I'm trying to control that.

There's hope ....

As I've been able to be more active, now that I know I don't have a gazillion blood clots in my legs... the waist band on my favorite pair of pants is no longer stretching.... it's just kinda 'there'... I think you know what I mean....

I'm pretty happy about it... I'm not looking to lose it so fast folks see...I just want to lose it steady... even a pound a week is good (and for my size that's a LLLLOOOWWW percentage). It will be easier on my heart. Easier on my body as it adjusts it set point... and easier to regulate meds...

You guys realize this, I hope... as you lose weight you will reach a point where you will need less hormone. It's important to monitor your basals to be aware of your body's adjustments...

.. no fears... once your meds are optimized and your metabolism picks up.. it's not going to be hard at all to manage a healthy weight.... I think we here know a LOT more about nutrition that most folks, that's the hardest part.... now apply that knowledge to a metabolism that is functioning properly and you'll do just fine...

Oh my goodness..... that's so true. I have enough knowledge to be a dietician. Honestly, I don't just know the current fad diets, I know hard core medical stuff about nutrition, weight loss, exercise..... for all the good it's done me.

I know that I won't ever be 115 lbs again. Not that I ever spent much of my life there. Honestly, I would be so happy to get under 200. I went from 240 pre-pregnancy, to 225 post pregnancy. But I'm struggling to stay there.

I do believe that the only reason I lost any then, was because I was *over-replaced*. I was taking more than double the thyroid I am now.... but my total T4 was .2 over *normal* so they cut my dose in half..... GRRRR...... But I hadn't felt so energetic or lost weight so easily in my LIFE. I know so much more about nutrition that all the skinny people I know. It isn't fair... but I've gotten over that. Life isn't fair, is it?

As long as there's hope I can hang on to the dream of getting even 1 size smaller...

>Hi tish

I just wanted to tell you that I took my daughter to see the doctor

today and he DID put her on aurmour. He said she was very hypo.

Thank you for being so informative and taking your time to help with

this. I was reading what you just wrote about the weight loss. He

started her on 1 grain for now.. should i warn her that she may gain

weight on this low dose? He did say he would def work her amount of

armour up. But being that she is young and so worried about all the

additional weight she has put on... if this is the case, I'm

thinking that it would be best to warn her (if you know what I

mean). Shes already so EMOTIONAL. Thanks again
