In my own research, I have found that these could indicate among other things, an autoimmune disorder. My doctor also told me that an hypothyroidism could cause a positive result here too. So with all the mention of antibody tests on here (I LOVE this group – so informative) has anyone heard of this as it pertains to hypothyroid or anything else? It sure didn’t sound like a happy thing to me. Thanks! Carol

Guest guest
Never heard of the ANA representing thyroid disease, but I have heard of it possibly representing lupus or another autoimmune disease. What are your symptoms again? Does anyone have this or know the answer? Guest guest
Yes, everything I too, read or heard had positive ANA pointing to lupus or other autoimmune disorders. I was referred to a rheumatologist who did some more tests to rule out lupus or RA. My main symptoms seem to be textbook thyroid (achy, exhausted, weight gain no matter what I eat, and freezing cold at 70 degrees). And since the positive ANA is my only lupus marker with a lack of other symptoms, they did rule it out while keeping an eye on me. He was the third doctor who told me that an underactive thyroid could cause a positive ANA. They repeated a bunch of my tests including this one, which I will hear more about on Tuesday. Thanks!
