Guest guest
Hi, all, I saw a new doctor yesterday. What a pompous A$$! Oh my gosh Fresh out of residency - I thought that would be a bonus - new ideas, maybe less concerned with actual numbers. NOT! He must have told me 6 times that my levels were in the normal range. " It doesn't matter which end of the range - it's still normal. " Ugh. He strongly feels that I have sleep apnea - hmm, didn't know that caused a goiter. So, I'm on my own until November, when I'll be able to see yet another doctor (I have a little bit of hope - it's a woman). Anyway, has anyone heard of Thyax? I just ran across a link to it - http://www.progressivehealth.com/catalog/displayitem.asp?product=2 - it says " Thyax can help your body produce more thyroxine to naturally stimulate your thyroid function " . One month supply is $29.95 - any thoughts, opinions, experiences? Thanks, Jodi
Guest guest
Hey Jodi, Taking something like that before you get decent tests to find out what is going on is just going to skew things.... Most of this type of product stimulates the gland...which can also cause problems with some conditions.... Any chance that you could give that next doc a call and politely request the tests that you want... explaining that the first doc wasn't too interested in finding out what was going on? I know this is nuts... but I've only seen that spelling once before... a gal that I went to high school with.... didn't graduate out of Anoka, did you? Guest guest
Jodi, You're numbers, to me, aren't looking too bad... have they done any scans of the gland to determine the cause of the goiter? I'm just running down some things.. Have you had your ferritn checked? That's the storage iron... How are your Bs doing? ... if you have a few minutes... swing over to our site and check this page: www.thyrophoenix.com/self_monitor.htm Tell me what your numbers are.. check tonight while you're sitting quietly.. again when you wake... about mid morning and then around lunch time... write down the figures.... Talk to me about your sleep pattern.. do you fall asleep right away, or does it take a while? Do you sleep through the night or wake up? If you wake can you easily fall asleep again? Do you dream, have nightmares, or nothing? When you wake, do you feel rested or are you looking for which way the truck went? Do you eat regularly or skip meals? Would you consider yourself a healthy eater or more of a junk food type? You're obviously not feeling well... and just because numbers are in 'normal' range does not mean they are normal for you.. AND if you have a goiter.. there has to be a reason.. is it one side or both? Any history of thyroid problems in your family? Are you eating more soy or had any major changes in your diet? We have a list of foods that tend to impede thyroid hormone... see if you eat a lot of these types of foods... more so now than before the goiter became noticeable. www.thyrophoenix.com/bad_foods.htm Lets see if we can find something.. you don't just get a goiter and feel like crap for the fun of it, right? I would have fallen of my chair if you'd been the same Jodi... I've not seen her since about a year after graduation... and that was in '75... I'm an 'oldie'! hehehehehehe Topper () On Sun, 05 Sep 2004 01:15:16 -0000 "jlwitz" writes: Hey, :)I've had the tests done - just about a month ago, I think.TSH - 1.27 (0.3 - 5.0) MIU/ML> Free T3 - 3.32 (1.7 - 3.7) pg/mlFree Thyroxine - 1.0 (0.7 - 1.9) NG/DLAntimicrosomal AB - 0.23 <= 0.90 negative 0.91 - 1.09 suggest repeat >= 1.10 positiveThyroglobulin AB - 0.06 <= 0.90 negative 0.91 - 1.09 suggest repeat >= 1.10 positiveMy biggest complaint right now is the fatigue, followed closely by a growing goiter, weight gain (and inability to lose) and lots of other things.I've never heard of Anoka I live central IL - in the town that I grew up in.
