Guest guest
, I lived in Raleigh for 15 years. I have two children still there and many many friends. I love it!!!! I went to Duke Hospital for my VAT...Dr. Marshall was my pulmo. The lung dept there is wonderful and of course, Duke is one of the finest hospitals around. We had a beautiful house in Raleigh, surrounded by trees. The deer would come right up to the front porch. The only down side to Raleigh was the hurricanes. We sure had enough of them and lots of damage. Also, we would have ice storms once a year. Didnt last long, but paralyzed the city for a few days. I had to move from there because the humidity was too high for me and I just could not breathe. Dr. marshall suggested I move to a drier climate..so I did but my heart is still there, along with my kids and friends. The big Outlet mall between Raleigh and Durham is a wonderful place to shop. I would go there before school started and then at holiday times. During the holidays, it is really pretty (Butlington) And then, of course, we would go up toward Ashville to see the leaves changing and Winston-Salme has that neat place with the brick streets and the Amish cookie vendors. Anyway, it is a wonderful place to live. Highway 40 is not fun to drive on but once you get past Greensboro, it gets easier. I love Winston-Salem and if possible, make sure you get to go to eat at Hilly Heaven sometime. So different and alot of fun. Out on a dirt road...no menus, you write on the walls, you eat what they give you..and plenty of it and then..in order to get out to your car, you go through a small theatre where local people are singing, dancing, etc. Free of charge. Just sit and listen or go up and perform. Not karoke. Fun... Anyway, I know that area...you will like it.. Guest guest
Ice storms and hurricanes, generally not too serious in Raleigh, but...... Make even more sure you have adequate backup for oxygen. Extended power outages although lessened through more underground wiring are still more frequent than in other areas I've lived. Before underground they were horrible as the thick woods were quite destructive to power lines. And, of course, fires in our fireplaces aren't the answer for us. ly, a backup generator might be a wise investment in any area where extended power outages aren't uncommon. > > > > > > , > > > Congratulations working girl!! Guest guest
It's funny but the humidity doesn't bother me. I have much more trouble with extremely dry weather. Guest guest
I think I need to live in the Arctic I like cold way better then hot. I dont know I just sweat all the time and I cant stand that and the air always feels stuffy to me! So I would take cold any day over humidity. Guest guest
, We're way ahead of the game on that issue. We already have a generator installed on the property and can switch the house over fairly easily if we need to. I know from my sister's experience that extended power outages are not uncommon. By the way it is 29.9 miles from my new home on the north side of Durham to the RBC Center in Raleigh. (That's where the Carolina Hurricanes play!!) Depending on traffic it takes me about 45-50 minutes. I guess it depends on where you are and where you're going in either city. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. It's great to have easy access to both places. They are both great little cities!! Beth in NY Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 "At the evening of life we shall be judged on our love." Guest guest
Oh you live in Alaska! I would love to live there! Not sure about the no getting dark there, does it really do that? Do you ever get to see the whales and all that? Gosh I would have to live right by the sea to see all that all the time. The moose and all that, I would be in seventh heaven and the cold! I just might have to do that I wonder if my husband can find a position in the military up there? Sandie > > > > > > > > > > , > > > > > Congratulations working girl!! Guest guest
Humidity doesn't bother me either...yet anyway. I would think it would be good for us. I know it's good for your skin so why not your lungs? Jim, you can stay in Alaska. I would just freeze to death. I drive my family nuts with turning up the heater, they turn it down. I'm always cold and figure that it has something to do with low oxygen levels. I think the Carolina's sound so beautiful. Makes me want to come and see. The farthest east I've been is Mississippi. My girlfriend and I talk about driving to Georgia and eating at a Deen's resturant. If we can manage that the coming year, maybe we will drive farther. Eating at that place with no menu's sounds like a lot of fun. Kay It's funny but the humidity doesn't bother me. I have much more trouble > with extremely dry weather. Isn't it odd how different we all can be? > > Beth in NY Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 > > " At the evening of life we shall be judged on our love. Guest guest
I wonder how humidity is going to affect me as well. Normally, with my hay fever and allergies I have always done better with humidity. They were the best ever when I lived in South Florida. Here, while the humidity is bad, what does me in is just the stifling heat and the horrible air quality in the summer. Now, many say humidity does affect them and guess I'll just have to wait and see. > > > > > > > > , > > > > Congratulations working girl!! And yes you are way too adorable > > for > > > manual labor!
