Guest guest
Marcus: Did you hear what kind of exercises? I'm serious! My son flies from Seattle to WN DC almost weekly -- is this to be worried about or are they talking about even more flying. That's quite a lot! Thanks Charlotte ----- Original Message ----- From: Marcus DVT Deep Vain Thrombosis, nothing to do with NF. However is seems it kills around 30,000 people around the world each year, making it much worse than NF. DVT is caused by LONG HAUL air travel, or being seated for many hrs in a low air pressure environment. DVT has been ' hushed up ' by Airlines for decades, yet it seems all that is needed is to prevent this is to do a few simple ' in chair' exercises during flight. Guest guest
Hi Charlotte ! I asked my doctor about the exercises . He showed me a few, they are hard to describe here so here goes : 1. While sitting, raise your heels so that your on your toes. 2. While sitting, raise the front of your foot and while resting on your heels rotate your feet. You need to do this from time to time repeatedly to get the blood circulating in your legs. The DVT seems to occur just above the knee at the back of the leg. The warning is its for long haul flights. Marcus
Guest guest
DVT is a worry. Beside the exercises you should pop a few aspirin before your flight. I think Vitamin C to strengthen the veins might be a good idea too-Lori:) DVT non NF but darn interesting DVT Deep Vain Thrombosis, nothing to do with NF. From Marcus who will be doing ' IN-AISLE IN-FLIGHT DANCING ' on his way to Vegas ( 16 hrs in the air )
Guest guest
Thank you Marcus. His flights are only five hours at a time, but fairly often. It's funny -- I don't panic much for me, but I do for all 3 of my kids even tho they're grown! Charlotte Re: DVT non NF but darn interesting Hi Charlotte ! I asked my doctor about the exercises .
