The Cafe is another group that and I set up.. just so we have a place to go gossip or to follow a thread that isnt' exactly thyroid related... oh, and share jokes.... The idea is to keep this group a bit more focused for those that have limited time or endurance and can't spend effort and time sorting through a lot of off topic posts.

Hi Topper

Thanks for the info! My surgeon DID advise me to talk to my primary

care physician and I am thinking that just because someone does an

excellent job of chopping a big mass out of my neck <G> doesn't

necessarily mean he is such an expert at the other part. I *know*

what I felt!! I think I will ask my primary care doctor for a

referral -- but not sure just what kind of doctor to ask her for. I

guarantee you ONE thing... I will NOT sit around and put up with the

kind of symptoms I've had the past couple years without a fight. :)

I appreciate the input and " education. "

Hi Topper

I think it is probably because there are so many " jokes " out there

about weight being blamed on thyroid, etc. that lots of us have

learned not to take thyroid problems seriously. In fact when I was

diagnosed we were laughing at work about how we all say our weight

is because of our thyroid and that some people really DO have

problems. :) I am one of them and I can prove it. <GGGG>

I will try to use caution and not get on a soapbox to people... but

I WILL suggest they get checked if they have these problems!!

I think we get a lot further by example then we do by lecture....

Although.. for me, when I was in storm and absolutely positive that I was going insane... having someone go nose to nose with me and telling me what was wrong might have helped. I'd just given up.. the first doc said that nothing was wrong. Made me feel like I was out trolling for sympathy and making it all up..... That was just not me... but part of the thyroid being messed up is such a severe level of self doubt... and that is what we need to find back....

For me.. the crap I get now is that I'm taking meds, my still being fat is because I'm just lazy... Gosh.. if they had any idea at all of what it's like deal with olympian events like getting out of a chair to go to the bathroom AND making it all the way there... or taking a shower.... Maybe then they would be more understanding of how we are protective of our limitations and it has nothing to do with laziness or irresponsibility....

*sigh*

I have to remind myself of how far I have come in just two years. I have come a LONG LONG LONG way. Not just in my body, but in my mind. How I look at myself and feel about myself... that is just as profound as walking through the grocery store for the first time in five years without having to hang on to the shopping cart to keep from falling down from exhaustion.

I know, though I haven't had it-----The rapid thinking, doing 50 things at once, literally. It was a speed trap, huh? During what I now know was a hyper phase of Hashi's, I could not sit down in my own house, I had to be constantly doing something, plus, at the same time, I had free floating anxiety. Oh, everything in the house was clean all right. I didn't know what it was like to sit on my own furniture, that is, until I crashed in a day, literally, a day. Yeh, the dry hair and skin and droopy eyes and puffy face were there, but they were THE only signs I had, until I crashed within a 24 hr period of time. Until then, I couldn't sit down and read or sit down and do anything. I also had constant "adventure" going ALLL the time.

This is the other side of the coin, concerning us ranting and raving about

I plan to make an appointment with her... ALL my test results and

records were faxed to her as well. But no I did not know that TSH

and actual thyroid hormones were not the same thing... good to

know... thanks!! :)
