Guest guest Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Hi Clara. Thanks for asking about me. I am here. I have 616 e-mails to go through. I'm very behind. I haven't been online in a long, long time. I check e-mails at work but I don't get to read them all of course. I hope I can catch up soon and get back on track. I'm just worried about maintaining my weight right now. I need to lose, yes, but I'm focusing on my chest and my medication and my therapy right now. I start Physical Therapy tomorrow at 2 and then 3 times a week after that. I had one meeting last week but it was just a discussion. Tomorrow is the real thing and I'm looking forward to it. That mixed with the medication....I hope and pray will solve my problem. This has been the first day in months that my chest hasn't hurt at all. I prayed earlier to God that whatever is happening to stop the pain for today....please make it continue! All I have left is prayer I guess. I have gained some weight this last month but it could be worse and I've been maintaining since Christmas but haven't had an official weigh in in awhile. I might be returning to weigh ins only this month or the next month. I'll be thinking about that soon. I hope you all have a great week. Good luck on the contest. Sounds like a lot of fun! Guest guest Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Thanks a lot Melody and I know I am not in this alone. I don't know what I would do without you guys. Sadly the medicine is NOT working. I have been taking it for several weeks now and I see no change. I have had 4 sessions of physical therapy and no change. I'm getting a lot of exercise and my neck is probably getting better as well as my chest and I'm burning some calories but the pain in my neck and chest are still the same. I'm not giving up though. I have 14 more sessions of PT and I have a lot of pills left and I am praying to God to take this pain away. That's all I can do I guess. The PT lady suggested if this doesn't work going to a Digestive Specialist or a Cardiologist. THAT was scary. A cardiologist? I never thought it would be THAT serious. But I don't think it will come to that. The PT ladies think this chest and neck pain is all related to my bad posture and my dramatic weight loss of 127 lbs. and my slow weight gain of 30 lbs. The nerves in my chest and neck were pulled in different ways. She says the muslce spasm in my neck wouldn't cause chest pain and the disc that is herniated is the cervical which would affect my neck, shoulder, and arms. My neck, shoulder, and arms are sore too! Go figure. They didn't hurt until they told me something was wrong there. LOL! So she is thinking my posture needs to be worked on. We are doing exercises to strengthen my abs and back and lumbar and etc. It's been fun actually. I had heat therapy twice and yesterday I did traction which was interesting. The 1st day the lady pushed on my chest for about 10 minutes, all over, for long periods of time. It hurt sooooo bad and is soooo sore now but I will do ANYTHING to get rid of this pain. All of this just makes me so depressed that I eat, don't exercise, and don't wanna leave the house. I work and come home or go visit friends because I would get lonely if I didn't. I used to want to go, go, go all the time now I just want to stay home and be pain free and now even with a loose shirt or tank top it hurts. Sorry I'm complaining so much but I can't fix the pain but I sure can gripe about it well! Have a great weekend guys. Your TOPS Pal, P.S. I haven't weighed in in a long time. Feel the same. Will weigh in soon. I promise. I have to get motivated to get this weight off pain or no pain. Like I said....it's just depressing. I know some people have more pain than me and have to live with it but at least MOST of them know what's wrong. I have no idea. RE: Monday morning ! You just remember that you are not in this alone! Guest guest Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I'm so sorry to hear that you're still in pain - but keep that attitude - don't give up till you've tried it all! There has to be something - somewhere that will work for you. Your situation has me watching my son VERY closely! We do a lot of his schoolwork on the computer plus he is an avid gamer so he spends a lot of time on the computer. After hearing what your dr had to say - I've been right on his butt about the way he sits while he is working on the computer. I also make him take regular breaks to walk around and do something other than sitting there. I know how depressing this has to be for you. You are justified in complaining - and I know this is easier said than done, but do try to find something to do other than eat. I know we all tend to head for the food for comfort when we are hurting, depressed, stressed, etc - but you may be hurting yourself more ya know? We all love you too much to see you hurt yourself more. I was talking to someone about your condition and they asked me if you had tried cutting out all white stuff out of your diet (such as wheat, sugar, etc) I said I didn't know and would ask. Gee....if I cut out all white stuff in my diet - I'd starve to death ROFL! Hang in there ! We are all here for you anytime.....ALL the time!! HUGS! Melody > Quote
Guest guest Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Thank you VERY much Melody. I will never give up trying to find out what's wrong with me other than being a FREAK as my coworker called me! LOL! I'm a freak because no one can figure out what's causing the pain. I don't care how many doctors I have to go to or how much testing I have to have....I will do ANYTHING to STOP this pain. When I was doing the heat therapy on Monday she told me to pull the cord if it got too hot. Well it did on my back but I didn't want to pull the cord because I was worried that would affect the therapy. I suffered through the pain and realized yesterday that I had large burns on my back! They never hurt after that but I noticed them yesterday. Like I said.....I'll do anything to get rid of this pain! LOL! Even suffer more pain. Please watch his posture. Please watch your posture. EVERYONE be leary about the way you sit at the computer. My posture is REALLY affecting my life and I always heard it would bother me in the long run and I never listened to it but boy I wish I had. All of these problems could be caused by my posture and I have terrible posture and it's very hard to fix it. I don't hold my neck straight, I don't sit up straight, I slouch a lot, and it's very hard to correct this problem but I'm working on it. We spent 30 minutes yesterday trying to straighten me out. It's going to be a tough habit to make. I have to strengthen my abs because that's what supports your back. Make sure your computer and keyboard are right in front of you, make sure your wrists are straight when you are typing, make sure you are looking straight ahead, make sure your desk is 28 inches from the floor and make sure your chair is 28 inches from the floor and you have some sort of lumbar support. For me, being 6' 3 " , it's hard to fit in the desks at work so I get in weird positions to get comfortable. My posture is so bad because for so many years I was overweight and I would slouch when sitting or standing to hide my stomach and breasts from society. If you stand up straight your stomach and chest stick out. I didn't want that when I was 316. Now that I'm a lot thinner (used to be MUCH thinner) they don't stick out anymore but I can't get in the habit of good posture. I was self conscience of my weight now I'm self conscience of my posture. Doesn't it just figure? I don't really overeat but I don't feel like being active outside of work. Exercise hurts so I don't do it. Going out to have fun hurts so I don't do it. Sitting on the couch, on the computer, or sleeping FEELS good so that's what I do. It's depressing and makes me gain weight because of lack of exercise. Cutting out white foods? What does that mean exactly? I don't think that would help in my cause but it's an option I will ask my doctor about if THIS doesn't help. I have been praying A LOT lately. That will help I'm sure. If you go to nadachair.com you can check out this back brace that REALLY helps you have good posture while sitting at the computer. I want one but they are 60.00. I am going to try and get my insurance to cover it when I get a note from my doctor. If not I will save up the money to buy it because a lady at work has it and I tried it and it feels awesome! I can't wait to get it! Thanks for caring everyone. Crooked Re: Monday morning I'm so sorry to hear that you're still in pain - but keep that attitude - don't give up till you've tried it all! Guest guest Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 , until you can afford the back brace you want, how about one of the really wide belts that people at Lowe's & Home Depot wear for heavy lifting???
