Guest guest
Hello 1929@..., In reference to your comment: è A1C - down to 5.8 was 9.6 from June 8 I am feeling è wonderful and still losing weight at about 1 lb per week. Great and just goes to show you that there are many ways to deal with this charming disease ========Original Message======== Subj: My checkup 5 months after diagnosis Date: 11/29/01 11:49:56 AM Eastern Standard Time From: <A HREF= " mailto:1929@... Must be the lovely new 7.0. Anyway. I just had my check-up 5 months post diagnois and had to share the results. Now keep in mind I am the picky eater and don't do low carbs I modified my foods to small portions of the carbs I eat (because most of what I eat is all carbs). I will always be on meds because of this but something I have had to learn to deal with (glucophage and precose). A1C - down to 5.8 was 9.6 from June 8 I am feeling wonderful and still losing weight at about 1 lb per week. All my other tests were great too. **All email sent through this mail list is Copyrighted by the original author. Guest guest
Congratulations, ...this is truly a good example of YMMV...if you can eat small portions of carby foods and still have that excellent A1C more power to you. Lots of us can't manage that. Just remember...diabetes is a progressive disease, when you think you have everything under control something changes. So do keep on checking your BGs. Guest guest
Thanks Vicki. I'm hoping that when the day comes - where I can't get the small portions of carbs. I will be older and maybe able to tolerate different foods. My body is strange lol doesn't react well to me changing my foods and/or to medicine. Guest guest
I take the lowest dosage of glucophage and precose. And I only take both of these because I am allergic to all other diabetes meds on the market. My body hates meds. Alot of the time I eat no dinner just because I hate all foods and the only ones I can stomach are high in carbs.

Kathy ***Kathy, it gets down to this question - is something yummy for a moment worth the loss of your sight, your extremeties, your kidneys or your life? Lowering your carbs is hard, no doubt, but if it lowers your bg numbers, it will save your life, as it's the carbs the spike the blood sugar. The other option, of course, is increased medication. For inspiration there are many excellent success stories in our shared files in the folder " Success Stories " . The Files URL is at the bottom of each message. hth, Barb
Guest guest
Hi, Kathy...I'm not ...but I'm sure you'll get lots of answers to your question. For me, I find substituting " faux mashed potatos " made with steamed cauliflower thrown in the blender is a dead ringer for mashed potatos visually and is very lowcarb...I mix them with sauteed mushrooms and sometimes pepper cheese and this works quite nicely. I eat big salads made with lettuce and avocado only...stay away from root veggies but eat lots of spinach, cabbage, sauerkraut, greenbeans, asparagus...very light on fruit but raspberries and strawberries in small amounts are okay (I use frozen in winter)...I like something sweet at the end of a meal so I use lowfat ricotta cheese sweetened with different DaVinci lowcarb syrups (available online) topped with strawberries or raspberries. For lunch I usually have some kind of soup and lowcarb tortilla roll-up -- deviled egg, tuna salad, deli meat and cheese, avocado and bacon. the only lowcarb crunchy I know of are the pork rinds but they satisfy the " salty-crunchy " need formerly satisfied with chips, etc. I don't drink sodas of any kind, but I drink plenty of water (which is very important). There are several lowcarb receipe sites online. The one I like is at the CarbSmart URl...you can sign up and you'll get 5 to 10 lowcarb recips via email every day. URL is www.carbsmart.com then click on recipe exchange. (They're also an online lowcarb store). Vicki << 1929...Would you please share what you are eating? I'm having a hard time low-carbing. Guest guest
Wow, , I'm impressed that you can eat all those carbs and still have good A1C's...I couldn't eat three-quarters of those things without huge spikes. Guess it's just another example of YMMV. So...advice to all newbies...eat and test and keep good notes and pretty soon you'll learn what works for you. Guest guest
Yes, i figured people would be appalled at what I eat but it works for me and she asked. I wish I liked more food but that's just the way it is.

Ultimately we all need to find what works for us and what we can stick and hopefully enjoy while we are at it. Happy Holidays
Guest guest
, Why not eat lower carbs. and not take the precose. My goal is NO meds. Because as I stated, most of the foods I can tolerate have carbs. I just can't stomach alot of foods, believe me I have tried since a child to try other foods and new things but 1 or 2 bites and I am sick and can't eat anymore. I am very sensitive to taste and smell so foods have always been a problem for me. Today was a luncheon at work and guess what everyone was checking out my plate because they know how I am and knew there wasn't anything they thought I would like on the buffet. I only had bread and some sharp cheddard cheese squares on my plate because I paid 25.00 for a luncheon and didn't like a thing. I thought I could at least have lettece but guess what no salad dressing I liked lol.
