To jump from 200 mcg of Synthroid to 300 in one shot is extremely dangerous, IMHO!!!! It will take four to six weeks for you to feel the full effects of the increase and by that point there will be so much T4 in your tissues that you could be in seriously rough shape for weeks, as the best case scenario, and risking heart attack as the worst case.

Combine that with the fact that the tests taken really don't tell you doodly squat about what your thyroid hormone levels are... I don't have a whole lot of confidence in your doc.....

Would it be possible to tell him that you want another draw taken and the correct tests to be run to see where the pertinent hormone levels are?

In the mean time.. there is no way that I would make that high a jump in any type of thyroid hormone.. it's far too much for your body to safely adjust to.. even if your optimum dose does turn out to be that high... the increase is simply too great...

IMHO, of course.

Hello all,My labs came back yesterday, and I spoke to the doctor about them.First the lab results:Thyroxine (T4) 10.4 scale 4.5-12.0T3 Uptake 32 scale 24-39Free Thyroxine Index 3.3 scale 1.2-4.9I had a bunch of over tests done as well, and one came back positive. Apparently I have Epstein-Barr. Many people have the virus/antigens but they lay dorment. Mine however are not and it has caused Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Basically its like having Mono all the time.I did ask about switching to a T4/T3 protocol, but he was hesitant to do that at this time. He agreed to raise my synthroid to .3 from .2 and in 6 weeks we will re-test blood and see where I am.What does anyone/everyone think. Any help would be great.Sue

Sue, how good are you at splitting tabs... can you do some chopping to give you a smaller increase for now while you do some doc talking to see what else you can get adjusted... You know, I think, I'm more optimistic about natural thyroid than the synthetics (personal view, but shared by many) that might be something that you want to explore...

Thanks for the input. I really don't know what to do at this point. I am so confused. It seems that the Epstein-Barr and mainly the CFS have many of the same symptoms as hypo...so I can't tell which it is. Ya know.Anyway, I am feeling even more depressed about all of this. I have not start the new .3 of synthryoid...I was a little scared to tell you the truth. Im glad you and Topper both warned me about it.I will try to see if I can get another draw with the tests that I really need done, and then see if I can find a new doctor. But what do you do...call them up and ask the desk nurse if he RX Cytomel, et. al.?I feel like crap. Thanks for helping.Sue
