Guest guest
Review you policies and procedures. Just define what you do, then do what you define. Make sure the medical staff agrees with your policy. Write your policies to state that the terms PT consult, PT eval all mean, PT eval and treat. I hope this helps. Reynolds, MHS PT Supervisor of Therapy Services Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital x 179 reynolds.mary@... " Eval & Treat " vs " Consult " My hospital has recognized the term " PT Consult " as the equivalent to " Evaluate and Treat " . After the evaluation is completed, we provide a clarification order to the physician including information on the therapy type, frequency, and duration. If the physician writes " PT Eval " , then we only do the evaluation and wait for a follow-up order to authorize subsequent treatment if it is necessary. Is anyone familiar with any regulations or otherwise that would require the phrase " Eval & Treat " vs " Consult " ? Thank you, Curtis Looking to start your own Practice? Visit www.InHomeRehab.com. Guest guest
We use consult and eval interchangeably. The end result of both requests is an evaluation, determination of problems, treatment plan and goals. This is subsequently summarized in a plan of care request that is cosigned as acceptable by the referring MD Ron Barbato P.T. Guest guest
The difference between " Eval " and " Consult " is relevant only as far as the interpretation of that language by the referrer and the therapist. The rules that determine our relationship with physicians (whether promulgated by the state, third-parties, certifying organizations, or others) do not change based on the language used to instigate a service. Your question then, is one of policy, as well as of communication between providers. Make sure everyone is interpreting the same way, write that into your policies if you feel the need, and you will be fine.
