Guest guest
> I weighed 346.50 when I joined TOPS.. >Hugs, Elaine Elaine, Thank you for sharing the info on the Century Club and your struggles. I am working toward that goal. It brought up several questions I've been wanting to ask this group for a long time. What is your opinion on goal weights for people that have been so very overweight like us? Should our goal weights be the same as for everyone else of our height who has never been morbidly overweight? Is that too unreasonable of a goal? I have talked to a few people in other TOPS chapters from mine that seem to think the weights on the insurance charts are next to impossible for us to acheive and are in reality unreasonable to expect us to attain. I'm referring to people who have been 100 or more pounds overweight. I wonder if there has been any true research on that? Stastically, there isn't much of a probability for us to attain a healthy weight, but going against the odds isn't new for a lot of us. What is your opinion on " intermediate " weight goals? The assistant weight recorder at another chapter suggested I get an " intermediate " goal weight so that my entire journey to a healthy weight wouldn't seem so unattainable. Then after staying there for awhile, to get a lower, final or " true " goal weight. She said it was her personal opinion that giving your body a rest at about the halfway point gave your body a chance to get used to that weight and gave you a better chance of attaining the final goal. More or less like a " planned " plataeu. I had never heard of that and it isn't mentioned in the guide book, so I know it isn't encouraged at headquarters. But I'm living and struggling in the real world. I just wondered what your thoughts were since you've been there, done that and know what the struggle is like. I am much more prone to listen to someone with that experience rather than a " normal " weight doctor spouting medical truisms. Know what I mean? LOL. Seriously, though I know what they are saying is true, it just tends to go right in one ear and out the other when I know *they* don't know what the struggle is like. After two weeks in a row with a loss, last night made two weeks in a row with a gain for me. Sigh. But I'm hanging in there. By a thread maybe, but still hanging in there! Oh, Elaine...that is sooooooooo refreshing to hear! Thank you for that breath of fresh air. Sometimes I feel so burdened and bound up by my goal weight. According to those " dreaded " insurance charts I should weight 140 pounds. I don't think I can ever get there except in my dreams. My doctor is willing to talk about something a " little " higher, but not much higher. I haven't asked for or turned in my goal weight yet since I am so very, very far from that. Your message gives me courage to talk about a higher and more probably attainable goal weight. Thank you! > Never give up Kathleen! We can do this! Thank you. You're right. I can't do it alone, but together with God we can! Without my chapter, I would have quit by now. That accountability is very important. It takes determination to > find what works for you and Stick with it! Keep me posted on your > progress! TOPS Love, Elaine Thank you. I will.
