Greg...I agree with you. I was one throwing in the suggestion for a "mcdonald"

house and after reading your mail, why not a permenant residence for some,

but make it a re-treat for others that need a break, spiritual alonenessss

etc. Sometimes we just need a break from it all!! ANYBODY WRITTEN TO OPRAH

ABOUT DOING A SHOW ON NF....I will if no one else has!!!!! Maybe a start

for funding???????????????????

it’s going to be "one" house. Some say in comparison to a Mc

roof from all regions of United States and possibly beyond? Mc’s

Houses are for family members of seriously ill children, it’s not a permanent

funding, and that’s why these Mc Houses are very well put

together, because of the obvious funding. That’s how the NF2 house should

be built. Something else comes to mind and that’s, "why have one house?"

Why one location? How many of us want to relocate? To change doctors? Why

not have more than one house? Have and North, South, East and West NF2

House locations or regions. We could probably build something like this

if we get the support and funding. I think we have to put together questions

and ask ourselves, why do we want this house? If we had to put together

a proposal, what would be in it! What’s the real goal or purpose for wanting

this house, then send it out to every single NF2’er we can track down,

and get some feedback. Find out what they’d like to have in an NF2 house

or what they would want from it. You can’t buy any old place bc you’ll

need to have certain accommodations to support the accessibility of our

needs, i.e. like wheelchairs, etc. I think an NF2 house would be a great

idea. I think it would be the perfect refuge or extended living environment,

however we decide to set it up, and it’s a great way to support each other

in times physical and emotional need. Just my thoughts--

Greg You know we all like the idea of

a house, but do you really think we could ever agree on a site? And if

we did, how many of you would REALLY go to live there? Now be honest;

think if you have future surgery ahead, and your family will not be there

to care for you, etc. --would you really relocate? The devil's

I do think Gillian is a spokesperson for NF2, who is connected with NF INC. Who knows, maybe Oprah would love to have her on her show.

I agree that several would be ideal, but do you think we can find that many NF2ers that are interested in a permanent living arrangement? marie

My bags are packed, Marie.:)

My mom and I were talking the other day about it, she thinks it's a great idea!:) My feeling is that the best thing to do to start is just start small on an idea, it can be overwhelming to get "the future" all lined up before we even know what it will be, you know? 's idea was what and I were thinking about too, just a big ol' house at first, then see how it goes. A test group I guess you can say.:) A bunch of us sharing a big house, then I forgot who mentioned it, but it can also be a place for people to stay if they need a place while they have surgery, OR just need to plain ol' get away to "where everybody knows your name".:))

When I lived in So. Cal. I found it to be very expensive living on my own, so I'd rent a nice big two bedroom apartment, and then take in a renter. They'd pay 1/2 the utilities, 1/2 the rent, and I could then manage just fine. If we do not get someone to help fund this right away (I don't expect it to be free lodging ...do many of us have that now anyway?), if 5 or 6 share, then 5 or 6 split the expenses. I think a nice place can be rented to start off, even bought eventually too. Then like Greg said, perhaps this can start sprouting up in other states near NF clinics, expanding to larger places, but we have to start "one" first.

I vote for Florida for the first "test" group... and I have no problem at all moving out there either.:) First, I need to take care of some medical things I've already started out here (Ugh!), but please save me a place, because I'll definitely move if we decide to do this.:)

True, but as someone mentioned, it could serve two purposes. One, as a place for extended living for those that want to be with other nf2'ers bc they need support of others and two, as a place for those recouping from surgeries that also need assistance for daily living things. After that, it all gets very complex to actually make something like this work. The NF2 house could have a theme that's very flexible to meet various needs. NF2 is unique, why shouldn't the "house" be that way too. Heck, it could be a combination of things. A place for families to stay, while someone with NF2 is in the hospital, which is what the idea behind the Mc House, then a division of two types of living areas. The first could be a place for those who are able to live without assistance, or "independent living" and the second, a place for those to live that are recouping from surgery or that would require an assisted living arrangement. IT would be like a nursing home type of thing. It's stretching it a bit, but it's just an idea of how you could accommodate for the various needs of different NF2'ers. But to really find out what you need, you have to ask as many people with NF2 that you can locate. Just another thought.

Greg

I agree that several would be ideal, but do you think we can find that many NF2ers that are interested in a permanent living arrangement? marie

Hi,

I am just catching up on e-mails after 10 days. Greg sounds like he has a

great idea---regional houses which would not uproot people so drastically.

There is so much interest that I hope you will persevere and see this trough.

Good luck. Vicki
