Guest guest Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 HIV/AIDS Nurse Trainer The International Training and Education Center on HIV (I-TECH) is affiliated to the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, and the University of California in San Francisco, (UCSF). I-TECH in India was established in 2002, in collaboration with the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I-TECH promotes activities that increase human capacity for providing HIV/AIDS clinical care and support through the development of health care worker training systems that are locally-determined, optimally resourced, highly responsive and self-sustaining in countries and regions hardest hit by the AIDS epidemic. PRIMARY DUTIES: Program Development: • In coordination with I-TECH Nursing Program Coordinator, Nurse Consultants, and other staff, develop Nursing Initiative that will include the expansion of a Continuing Education and Training program for GHTM nurses including advanced training in women's HIV/AIDS health care • Advise and support strategic issues/plans that involve nursing/clinical training and education in HIV/AIDS care • Represent I-TECH at various planning and consultation meetings • Develop plans to build relationships between hospital nursing care and community/home based care systems • Establish I-TECH awareness and presence by networking with nursing/clinical associations such as schools of nursing, Indian Nursing Council (INC), local NGOs and other HIV/AIDS support organizations to build and strengthen relationships • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the India Country Director and I-TECH Nurse Consultants. Curriculum Development: • Develop curriculum, training materials, and TOT modules, and adapt to other regional contexts, and update as needed • Develop and provide clinical review of multidisciplinary educational materials and patient education materials Training: • In coordination with I-TECH Nursing Program Coordinator, Nurse Consultants, and other staff, continue development of training program at GHTM to enhance and expand the role of nurses in multidisciplinary HIV/AIDS care and treatment • Conduct in country trainings targeting nurses, community health workers, and other multidisciplinary staff • Identify, screen and recruit nurses to participate in I-TECH local and regional training activities • Train and monitor resource persons on the use of I-TECH curricula and on participatory training methods M & E: • Work with I-TECH Program Manager and Nursing Activity Program Coordinator to assess and identify specific country/regional training and technical assistance needs for nurses • Provide technical input to the M & E team, assisting in the development of needs assessment tools, as well as training evaluation tools. The HIV/AIDS Nurse Trainer will work in collaboration with the I- TECH nursing team which includes the Country Director, Nursing Program Coordinator, and Nurse Consultants. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • B.Sc. Nursing • Teaching/training experience • Curriculum development experience • HIV/AIDS experience • Fluency in Tamil, Telugu, and English – reading, writing, speaking • Computer skills and familiarity with MSWord and PowerPoint DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • M.Sc. Nursing HOURS AND LOCATION: Monday-Friday, 9-5 (hours may be longer on days that trainings take place). Some Saturdays required with advance notice. Part-time/flex- time negotiable for qualified applicants. Position will be housed at I-TECH Chennai, with some training related travel required.
